H.E.R. Tapped To Reprise the Role of Belle a “Disney Princess”

Today the world found out that legendary vocalist H.E.R. is getting the opportunity to live out a dream. And we are here for the magic.

H.E.R.’s Announcement

According to MSN, the songstress has been tapped to reprise the role of Belle. She will do so on a 30th Anniversary live readaptation of Beauty and the Beast. And she is over the moon.

A Magical Opportunity

Gabriella Wilson, also known as H.E.R., whose stage presence is undeniable, had some beautiful things to say about her once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. In her words,

“I have always wanted to be a Disney princess, and I get to work with two wonderful directors Hamish Hamilton and my favourite, Jon M. Chu.”

The fantastic news is not hers alone.

The Significance of H.E.R.’s Selection

The artist’s selection for the role is not only notable for her; it is a magical moment for many young girls. Gabrielle’s fulfillment of the part of the Disney princess will mark the first time a woman of mixed heritage will walk on stage as the eloquent and beautiful Belle. As MSN notes,

“H.E.R.’s casting marks the first time a woman with Filipino and African American heritage will play the role of Belle onscreen.”

Words cannot express the beauty of such a depiction. Because now more than ever, representation matters.

Everybody’s Happy

The directors were equally enthused to have Gabriella on board.  John Chu went on to elaborate on the perfection of her selection. According to Chu in Gabriella, they found the picturesque embodiment of Belle’s essence. And now, fans of the Disney masterpiece and H.E.R. will get the opportunity to see all the magic in a two-hour premiere on December 15th.

Congratulations to H.E.R. for living out a dream. Hopefully, this will be yet one more reminder to all young and young at heart that anything can happen. Dreams still do come true.

Beyonce, Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, and More Make 2022 Oscars Shortlist

With the official Oscar nominations less than two months away, it’s time for a shortlist from the Academy. A shortlist is effectively a progress report for studios to track the success of their projects. Think of it as an “unofficially official” prediction list for the Oscar draft. Among the revealed categories was “Best Original Song,” where some 15 songs are competing for the Academy’s title of “best”. It’s a field packed full of hip-hop and R&B talent, with the likes of Beyonce, a Jay-Z/Kid Cudi combo, and much more.

Jay-Z vs. Beyonce?

Starting us off is Beyonce with her song “Be Alive”, featured in the Venus and Serena Williams biopic King Richard. Beyonce found herself on the shortlist last year as well, for her song “Spirit”, featured in 2020’s The Lion King.

Joining her in the competition is husband Jay-Z. Teaming up with Kid Cudi for their song “Guns Go Bang”, the two big names look to bring a win to the western The Harder They Fall.  Should Jay find himself in the final list with Beyonce, it will be the first time in Oscar history that a couple has gone head-to-head for the title of Best Original Song.

Double Duty for Cudi

And Cudi’s got more. Turns out, you can enter a competition twice. A double nomination, if you will. Joining up with Ariana Grande, the two make The Shortlist, Vol. 1 with their song “Just Look Up”, for the satire sci-fi film Don’t Look Up.

The Best Song Champ Returns

However, the competition is far from decided. After all, there is a returning champ this year. Coming off her 2021 win, H.E.R. is back with “Automatic Woman”, featured in Halle Berry’s Bruised. H.E.R. won last year with “Fight for You”, bringing it home for Judas and The Black Messiah.

Turning up the Difficulty

Finally, we have Jennifer Hudson. She’s a vocal powerhouse. Her heaps of awards (musical and acting) speak for themselves. And now she’s up for Best Original Song with her “Here I Am (Singing My Way Home)” from her Aretha Franklin biopic Respect. J-Hud leads a sharp cast as Franklin and is also an executive producer of the film.

The field is packed and there can only be one winner this March. Who do you think has the best shot? Let us know by interacting with us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook!

Yung Bleu, BET’s Best New Artist, Releases New Music Video

Yung Bleu has teamed up with Davido to deliver a fresh new music video for Bleu’s song “Unforgiving.” The standout track comes off the rapper’s debut album, Moon Boy.

The video was filmed in Lagos, Nigeria, over the summer. The basis of the plot is Yung Bleu growing up and falling in love with his childhood friend. However, what might sound like a broadly used narrative, comes off in an unexpected yet very creative way. All the small, creative details Bleu includes in the video pull that off.

Bleu manages to create organic mix of natural and surreal. As pictured below, everyday settings and attire have some minor, unexpected details to them. Ones you wouldn’t expect to approach in your everyday routine.

Futuristic glasses add to the repairman suit, making it look like a supersuit. Furniture levitates around the rappers as they sit in ordinary living spaces, as if they were magicians moving objects with rap wizardry.

It almost seems like the camera lens is showing a world through a kids’ eyes. Growing up, real and surreal always mix. A similar feeling is captured in the “Unforgiving” music video.

The various joys of non-surreal life are also there: childhood lifelong friendships, romance, family. The video also doesn’t show any decadent life pleasures (expect maybe owning a space shuttle.) But even though shuttles strive for the glory of discovery and exploration, discovering something more significant, actual astronaut training is the opposite of decadent. This adds to the pattern of both otherworldly and everyday imagery in the music video.

The video’s composition ties together the whole experience. Bright and vivid colors make the setting appear light and sunny. The clip was directed by Dammy Twitch.

BET Calls Yung Bleu The Best New Hip Hop Artist

Less than a day ago, BET awarded Yung Bleu as their 2021 Best New Hip-Hop Artist. So far, 2021 has been a very successful year for Yung Bleu. He released his debut album in July, with features from H.E.R, Kehlani, Moneybagg Yo and many more. The record debuted at #12 on the Billboard 200 and #15 on the Rolling Stone 20. Moon Boy’s “Baddest” feature with Chris Brown and 2 Chainz currently has more than 30 million views on YouTube.

Yung Bleu is also currently touring dozens of cities. Be sure to check if there’s a show in or near your hometown! You won’t want to miss this Moon Boy’s astronomical rise.

H.E.R.’s Light’s On Festival Set to Return

On the 2021 BET awards show, H.E.R. announced the return of the Lights on Festival.

And on June 28th, H.E.R. (Gabriella Wilson) spoke to the press, divulging more festival details. 2021 marks the third year of H.E.R.’s celebration of R&B through the festival. She first brought the festival to California in 2019. And this is no ordinary event. As, according to a source, the festival’s 2019 opening was historical. “It was the first female-owned and curated festival in decades,” making it just as groundbreaking as Gabriella Wilson herself.

H.E.R. is a phenomenally gifted artist with a signature style.

PC: GETTY IMAGE

H.E.R. brings a unique intrigue to music. Her 2016 entry into the industry caused quite a stir. Without a doubt, it was her unique style that was voluminous, underscoring her persona. And it was Wilson’s silhouette and sultry vocal feature on Daniel Caesar’s “Best part” that had everyone wanting to know a little bit more about H.E.R.

Although she rolls with an alias, she is not an enigma. Wilson reveals a little of herself with every performance demonstrating to the world that the revelation of one’s identity does not define the depth of talent. She commands a stage no matter the venue. Furthermore, her abilities on the guitar fully compliment her vocals. The Light’s On Festival is one of the ways Gabriella gives back. As a source indicates, a portion of the sales proceeds goes towards the Grammy Museum and MusicCares.

Tickets for this two-day celebration from September 18-19 are now on sale. And the event promises to be an event not to miss. The festival includes a star-studded roster with performances from Ari Lennox, Ty Dollar $ign, Keysha Cole, and Erykah Badu. H.E.R. and her friends, along with other special guests, will also be there.

The Light’s On Festival will be an event to remember.

And as in the past, the festival will be held at California’s Concord Pavilion, with something for everyone. So don’t miss out; not only will the festival showcase musical talent, but it will also include living art, film screening, an arcade, and an R&B museum.

We show our support for H.E.R. in hopes that the 2021 Lights On Festival will be an unbelievable success. After all, a little celebration is well worth it, after the year we have had.

Besides being in Jamaica, the Grammy Award-winning DJ showing a glimpse of who is on the album. In two separate videos, the Miami DJ poses not only with The Migos but H.E.R as well. It seems like DJ Khaled is going through all the stops to promote his upcoming album— Khaled Khaled and it’s working.

In fact, on the beach, you can see DJ Khaled teasing the “paparazzi” tweeting the album is 98 percent done. Also, indicating there won’t be just one guest appearance from H.E.R.

“Khaled Khaled” is the follow-up from DJ Khaled’s 2019 album, “The Father of Ashad”. The Father of Ashad included singles “Wish Wish” with 21 Savage and Cardi B, “Higher” featuring Nipsey Hussle and John Legend, “Top Off” with Jay-Z, Beyonce’,  Future, and “No Brainer” featuring Quavo, Chance The Rapper, and Justin Bieber.

DJ Khaled also teamed up with The Migos and H.E.R. on this little vacay. Key figures in Reggae and Dancehall are also on full display in his tweet pics. Appearances consist of Barrington Levy, Buju Banton, Bounty Killer, and Capleton. Levy, being excited about the collab has been showing clips of the two together. Along with Khaled, who posted the two with the caption:

“HISTORY!!! “Listen, legendary Barrington Levy..legendary, legendary, legendary. Barrington Levy, Bounty, Buju, Fireman, they don’t just come out for anybody.”

Since never being shy from incorporating Reggae into his music, this is no surprise from me. If anything, it makes me more excited to see what this group has up its sleeves.

This summer may be a “Wild” one for the records! Dj Khaled is bringing the heat and incredible artists by blending cultures together to make great music. Khaled is making a sound for the summer. Safe to say, I don’t think the “We The Best” DJ has had an awful summer yet.
