DJ Akademiks Claims Ebro Is Blackballing DaBaby

DaBaby has been canceled online for about a year now for some poor homophobic comments made at one of the Rolling Loud Festivals last summer. Some have forgiven the North Carolina rapper, but many in the industry are still distancing themselves from Dababy. DJ Akademiks recently appeared on The Breakfast Club & claims that Ebro, Hot97’s icon, is still blackballing Dababy & his music.

The broader reason why Akademiks is calling the radio personality out is that he believes Ebro is “using Apple Music as a weapon for ur personal issues.” He even compared Dababy’s last album sales with his new album’s significantly lower projections. For additional comparison, independent rapper LUCKI is projected to outsell the Charlotte megastar with his new album Flawless Like Me. Take a look at the full tweet of Akademiks follow-up response to Ebro’s actions:

Dababy’s New Album Stirs Up More Controversy

Speaking of Dababy’s new album, the rapper dropped Baby On Baby 2 this past Friday (September 23rd). This is a sequel to his fan-favorite project Baby On Baby which jumpstarted his career & contains several huge hits from that year. The new release isn’t getting the same love though, as the sales projections would suggest. He also revealed his past sex history with Megan Thee Stallion despite their current beef with each other. While Dababy raps that he waiting to share this information on this album, many feel as the rapper attempted a clout chase. On a positive note, the song “Boogeyman” itself is still pretty good outside of that line:

What Is The Fate Of The Charolette Star?

Some still are in love with Dababy & his music while others have moved on from his antics & shenanigans. Although he’s arguably releasing the same quality of material at times, he’s also struggling to reach the same streams & success he attained over the years. Whether you agree with/support him or not, do you think Dababy’s career will be fine longterm?

Funkmaster Flex Challenges Wu-Tang Members to Make New Music

Hot 97 host Funkmaster Flex decided to call out yet another slew of hip hop artists who aren’t producing work. Over the past few months, Flex has called out several well-known rappers for not putting up in the rap game.  Funkmaster Flex is no stranger to beef or controversy. However, his recent exchanges stem more from frustration than actual malice. One of his first targets was Juelz Santanna. Santana who spent 19 months in prison serving out a weapons possession sentence. Upon his release,, music took a backseat as he pursued other ventures. Flex anxious for new songs called out the Dipset member. Flex utilized his platform to call out the rapper’s lack of output, “…we want a new Juelz Santana song…I will give you six days. Do you accept the challenge, yes or no?”  Santana then took to Instagram,, showing him working on a song with Benny the Butcher.

After the success of this callout,, other rappers who’ve been quiet recently felt Flex’s sting. Among the challenged rappers were heavy-hitting names like Busta Rhymes and Fabolous. These rappers likewise posted to their social media outlets letting fans know they heard Flex’s callout. However, these rappers pale in comparison to the latest emcees Flex set his crosshairs onto.

Funkmaster Flex’s Newest Challenge

After the apparent successes, Funkmaster Flex kicked it up a few notches by calling out Wu-Tang members Raekwon and Ghostface Killah. Flex held nothing back, “I challenge Raekwon and Ghostface to get me a joint…They gotta be on the…song…no features.”  Many quickly became excited at the mere potential of a new collaboration between the two. Even other artists called out as Busta Rhymes commented on his hopes for new music. While on the surface, this is no different than what Flex found himself doing before this callout’s impact easily eclipsed the others in raw excitement.

Why This One is Different

This is for obvious reasons. Few duos are more respected in hip-hop than Raekwon and Ghostface. The two found both creative and commercial success as members of the Wu-Tang Clan, on solo albums, guest features, and as a duo. Perhaps the only teams more revered than themselves are fellow Wu-Tang alum Method Man and Redman or Outkast. Despite their prolonged success and myriad classic projects, both have been silent recently. Raekwon last dropped an album five years ago, while Ghostface Killah focuses mainly on featured verses as of late. In comparison, his last solo album was three years ago.

In response to Flex, Raekwon posted a throwback picture of himself and Ghostface. While this is not confirmation of an official song, it was certainly enough to get fans excited. It is no wonder why. When two of the most respected members from one of the most influential groups are tasked with making new music, it is hard to be anything but ecstatic.

Is this a new wave?

A typical headline in recent months is one in which a legacy rapper calls out the new generation for lacking in some way. By no means are these complaints entirely false. Often the legacy emcees make a profound point on the changing landscape of the hip-hop scene. However, it becomes tiresome to see a legacy rapper call out the new wave without having a project of their own released or in the works. Is it hypocritical to call for better music and not make any of it yourself?

Footage Surfaces of Jay-Z At 2001 Summer Jam

Vintage footage of the unforgettable 2001 Hot 97 Summer Jam just surfaced online.  The hour long video shows a young Jay-Z rocking the Nassau Coliseum.  No one has ever been able to get their hands on the video!  He debuted the infamous diss, “Takeover”, aimed at Nas and Mobb Deep on that stage.  The crowd was shocked at the bars Hov dropped directed at the three New York emcees. During his set, a photo of Prodigy showed up on the screen.  He was a child dressed like a “ballerina” causing the stadium to erupt!

Jigga Reminices

Shortly after, he brought out Michael Jackson! Although, he didn’t  perform, he blessed the crowd with his prescence.  He took pictures with the Roc-A-Fella team and blew kisses to the crowd before leaving.  Jeymes Samuel, producer of the movie The Harder They Fall, sent Jay-Z the video that has been buzzing online.  Samuel and Jay-Z have been working together on more projects.  Apparently, while looking at the old video of himself he says, “Yo, Jigga’s something else!”

Jay Keeps Winning

He is something else! And has proven that his whole career.  Lately he has been working with Yo Gotti regarding prison reform.  In 2020, Parchman penitentiary in Mississippi was being investigated for inhumane conditions.  Team Roc, the Roc Nation social justice group, hired lawyers for over 200 inmates.  Yesterday, Parchman Penitentiary was found guilty by the U.S. Justice Department of denying constitutional rights to its prisoners.  They have violated the 8th and 14th amendments. This includes failing to provide adequate mental health treatment.  Also, failing to protect incarcerated people from violence at the hands of other incarcerated people.

Yo Gotti makes a statement following the big win!

“My heart goes out to the incarcerated men wo have suffered without access to clean water, food and healthcare and the families that tragically lost loved ones in the process.  I will continue to stand up for the voiceless until they receive justice they deserve”.

NLE Choppa’s Funk Flex Freestyle Receives Negative Criticism

Yesterday, January 26th, New York’s legendary radio station Hot 97 uploaded a new Funk Flex Freestyle featuring NLE Choppa. The 19-year-old rapper is on a media run promoting his new mixtape Me Vs. Me which is dropping this Friday however many viewers are unhappy with his recent performance. To sum up, NLE Choppa’s Funk Flex Freestyle is receiving negative criticism online. Check out the video of his freestyle over the classic beat of Who Shot Ya? by Notorious B.I.G.:

NLE Choppa’s Response To The Criticism

First, he left a humble & honest comment on the Hot97 Youtube video explaining his mindset at the moment, “First time up there I had the jitters and butterflies in the stomach but being uncomfortable doing something only means it’s room for growth. Appreciate the opportunity Flex 💜.” In addition, he tweeted out a second response promising to prove his doubters wrong.

Expectations For His New Project

NLE Choppa’s Funk Flex Freestyle is receiving negative criticism online, but fans are still excited for the new Me Vs. Me mixtape. In short, I think he’s receiving too much hate for trying to rap over that style of instrumental. Overall, I expect this new project to be more in his pocket. Singles such as Too Hot with Moneybagg Yo sound great.

Meanwhile, he’s even doing decent on the charts with other singles including Jumpin with Polo G. In short, what are your expectations for NLE Choppa? And did you enjoy his freestyle with Funk Flex? Read more of FM Hip-Hop’s featured articles today.

Blueface Trends For Rapping on Beat on New Song

Blueface has fans in a frenzy over his latest rap delivery in the OGBobbyBillions-assisted track, “Better Days.” Contrary to his off-beat flow, the successful rapper switched it up by being more severe and transparent. In his other songs, Blueface typically uses a line of playful, carefree punchlines and bars. Likewise, his cadence is nine times out of ten in scrambles. The 2019 XXL Freshman’s “Better Days” comes right after “BGC,” which features DDG

During his verse in “Better Days,” he spits:I ain’t pray for these baguettes. I pray for better days (Better days). I ain’t pray for that new’ Vette. I’d rather have my dogs back. Lord protect me with this Tec. I ain’t pray for this Patek. Remember the day I got the text.’ Another fatherless child’. Can’t act right ’cause they left him fatherless. No hood harder than fatherhood. Who gon’ teach your son to go farther than father did. All these kids raising all these kids.”

Regardless of others’ opinions, he considers himself the best lyricist in the game. Although admitting that his flow isn’t top-tier, he says his wordplay is unmatched.

On Instagram, Mr. Bleedum states

“Hey cuz, that’s on my mama and my sis. I’m the best lyricist in the muthafuckin’ game, bro. I might not have the best flow, sound…but when it comes to wordplay, cuz, come on, bro.”

Today, the star rapper went on an interview with Ebro in the Morning. Amidst the conversation, he spoke about the controversy behind certain girls getting tattoos of his name and them staying at ‘his home.’ Elsewhere, he had a one-on-one about his new music and the reactions from “Better Days.”
