Latto and Playboi Carti Drops “Blick Sum” Music Video

Latto and Playboi Carti "Blick Sum" Music Video

Latto and Playboi Carti have joined forces for a remix of “Blick Sum,” a track from Latto’s 2024 album, Sugar Honey Iced Tea. The remix features a new verse from Carti, additionally a hot new music video, directed by Hidji World and Gunner Stahl.

In the music video, Latto embraces a more assertive persona, where she’s showcasing scenes where she confidently brandishes her “blicky”. She’s reminding us she’s still in her “gangster girl” era. Playboi Carti embodies his “playboy” persona in the video, and indeed fans love him for it. In one scene Carti’s performing in a UFC-style ring surrounded by bootylicious dancers shaking their “Gorgia Peach”. The visual also includes a cameo from rapper 2 Chainz, which further emphasizes the Atlanta connection.

The collaboration between Latto and Playboi Carti has been highly anticipated. Especially after a version of the track leaked prior to Latto’s album’s release. Fans are now treated to the official remix and its accompanying visuals. The video highlight the artists’ chemistry and individual styles.

Latto’s Sugar Honey Iced Tea album features collaborations with artists such as Young Nudy, Hunxho, Coco Jones, Megan Thee Stallion, Ciara, Mariah the Scientist, and Teezo Touchdown. Coi Leray Claps Back At Latto On Twitter For An Alleged Diss

The hip-hop girlies may be fighting again. Coi Leray was unhappy about Latto comparing her to the size of a blunt in a new song.

The “Big Energy” rapper initially performed the controversial “Put It On Da Floor” single during Coachella. It then got released past Friday, Apr 22, also causing a stir and a harsh response from Coi Leray.

The exact lyric in the “Put It On Da Floor,” new single goes, “smokin’ on that gas, blunt big as Coi Leray.”

Latto’s Similar Lyric On “Don’t Play With It”

Latto has also mentioned someone’s body size in her lyrics before. A month ago, on Lola Brooke’s “Don’t Play With It” remix, also with Yung Miami, Latto rapped:

“Drop that hunnid on a pennant, that shit big as Lola.”

However, although it was Lola’s own song, it did not seem like the artist took Latto’s lyric about her size offensively.

Coi Took It To Twitter

On the other hand, Coi Leray did not take Latto’s lyrics so well. She considered “Put It On Da Floor” a diss, which is also allegedly body-shaming the “Blick Blick” artist.

So Coi took her anger to Twitter and did not hold back.

First came Coi Leray’s offer to fight Big Latto. “Latto bye…here you go talking about my body,” Coi tweeted after suggesting a trial by combat. “Please do not come on here and talk about nobody BODY…Lmaooo ya blunt my size…this sh** is never ending.”

https://twitter.com/coi_leray/status/1649281833421422593

It did not stop there. The “Twinnem” author then went on to say, “Anybody that talk about my body wants my body!!!!!!!! Like real baddddd.”

Coi Leray also mentioned women who want to be like men “so bad” and have “rap beef.”

https://twitter.com/coi_leray/status/1649282246128312321

Coi Reconsidered Her Initial Reaction

The “Players” rapper then commented on her tweets about Stephens. “Maybe I overreacted [I don’t know]. End of the day. Don’t say my name for clicks and likes. [Especially,] if we don’t speak or communicate.”

The pair were seen in Latto’s “On God” music video in 2020, so some history possibly happened between them. Latto has yet to respond publicly.

“Here I Come” Rapper Lola Brooke Is Not Playing With The Mainstream Market

Brooklyn rapper Lola Brooke is coming for the mainstream market.

The artist’s single “Don’t Play With It” engulfed everyone’s TikTok timeline over the last few months. Most recently, she recruited Yung Miami of City Girls and Latto to hop on the remix at the end of last month.

Lola Brooke Joins Latto’s 777 Radio

Brooke also just stopped by Latto’s 777 radio to talk about the 2021 single, dating in the industry, and her background.

Lola Brooke told Latto she had a feeling that “Don’t Play With It” was “legit and hard,” but she didn’t know it would be a hit. She thought it would be a hit for the city, yet it went “global,” as the Southern rapper said.

Brooke said she didn’t feel any pressure from the song because it took two years for it to “pop.” The Brooklyn native released other music after she released the later-on hit.

Dating In The Music Industry?

When asked about dating someone in the music industry, the 718 princess sounded like she was leaning towards the idea of being in a relationship with another entertainer.

However, Brooke said she wondered if her significant other could compete with her. Lola also let it be known that she wants a rapper instead of a singer, jokingly solidifying it with lyrics from “Don’t Play With It.”

Lola told Latto that she is single and celebrities are in her DMs.

Where Did The Stage Name Come From?

The rapper also clarified where her stage name originated from. Lola was the “Looney Tunes” show character, Lola Bunny, and the Brooke part of the name came from the New York Borough, Brooklyn.

“Lola The Bunny,” because she was cute and like a tomboy, and Brooke because, as many know, Brooklyn is where she is from. The Arista signee gave us some of her background from New York, from taking the subway to keeping her circle tight to why her borough is the best. Big Gator and Latto were very playful, with great chemistry and many jokes in this episode.

Da Girls” (Remix) Featuring Lola Brooke and Lady London

Lola Brooke is taking the industry by storm, and you can hear her most recent mainstream hit, “Da Girls” (Remix). The song is originally just Ciara but the industry vet tags Brooke and incredible New York rapper Lady London.

A Livid Latto Speaks Out Against Blogger

Everyone has something to say, but it doesn’t always mean they should voice it. However, on March 1, Latto took on a YouTuber whose unsolicited opinion riled her up.

The Issue

Latto seems to be the nucleus of some negative sentiments in the cyber sphere. And it was only a short time before everything went nuclear. A blogger’s tweet went a little like this:

“I thought y’all said this was the one! It didn’t even break Top 50! Let alone Top 20, 10, 5, 3, or NUMBER 1… I was wondering why it was so quiet. 😂😂😂.”

https://twitter.com/ArmonWiggins/status/1630774487456296963?s=20

While such a statement could have been ignored, Latto wasn’t in the mood, so she hit back.

Making the Charts Isn’t Easy

No one denies that being a chart-topping artist requires a lot of work. Predicting where you will place on the chart is far easier than achieving that goal. One must always consider the fact that people drive the numbers, and people can be fickle. Jay-Z nailed it perfectly in the lyrics of his hit song Holy Grail. As Justin Timberlake sings in the chorus,

“I just can’t crack your code. One day, you’re screamin’ you love me loud, and the next, you’re so cold.”.

Frankly, the energy of fans changes quickly. So does the music they vibe with.

Latto Responds

Latto took the time to remind Armon Wiggins what it takes to make it on the charts. In so many words, she’s been about her business while others are minding hers. Latto held nothing back as she vented her frustrations. In her words,

“I’m really sick of y’all LOW LIFE GROWN ASS MEN speaking on me! P####! [M############] ain’t doing HALF of what I’m doing but want me to be ashamed of my accomplishments?

https://twitter.com/Latto/status/1630870265881313280?s=20

Reportedly, the exchange continued, and the longer it ran, the hotter it got until Latto relented. In Latto’s words,

“I quit! For I catch a case!”

That still wasn’t enough for Wiggins, who snuck in one more jab.

Latto The Success

There is so much drama to digest here. But one thing is sure; Artists never have to justify who they are. Their success speaks for itself. Latto has had four releases fall within the top 100. While her last three fell further in the rankings, according to Billboard, her “Big Energy” release made the top three and remained there for 51 weeks. She’s living the life many only dream about. She’s more than proved what she can do. And in reality, some individuals thrive on negativity. For some, it’s nothing personal; this is their bread and butter.

Fundamentally, this discourse went on longer than it should have. But kudos to Latto for speaking up for herself. Haters will inevitably hate there is nothing anyone can do to stop them. As long as Latto has fans who adore her, she’s making money and consistently breaking the records she sets for herself; keeping that big d*** energy, that’s all that matters.

Lil Baby Claims Atlanta is the Hub for Hip-Hop

Lil Baby performed at the LA3C festival in Los Angeles this past weekend.  It was the first festival for the LA3C, an organization driven to celebrate the creativity and culture of the city of Los Angeles, and the It’s Only Me rapper was the headliner.

Snoop Dogg and Kyle were the other rappers to hit the festival stage.  During the festival, he was asked about where hip-hop was as a genre right now. He responded by giving a big praise to Atlanta, his hometown.

“As far as culture, I feel like I been feeling.  Atlanta is like the ruler of the culture as far as Hip Hop…” Lil Baby told Billboard magazine.

Atlanta is Hip-Hop

Lil Baby does have a point here.  Atlanta has been home to some of the hottest artists out right now.  Future, Young Thug, 21 Savage, Quavo, Offset, Gunna, Playboi Carti, Latto, and J.I.D. all hail from Atlanta!  Future’s album I NEVER LIKED YOU is up for a Grammy for Best Rap Album this year and is his eighth number one album.  Young Thug is up for a Grammy along with Gunna for their song “Pushin P”.

https://twitter.com/nowhiphopnews_/status/1599442174885494784?s=46&t=xsJ5wtJ6Q0y5nfg_7xEiSQ

Playboi Carti is known for his live performances, and he has already been tapped by Rolling Loud to be the headliner for their California festival next year.  Latto is up and coming as she has snagged a Grammy nominee for Best New Artist.  J.I.D. ‘s album The Forever Story is regarded as one of the best albums of this year!  And of course, Atlanta is home to many rap legends.  T.I., Ludacris, Jeezy, OutKast, 2 Chainz, Gucci Mane, Killer Mike, and Jermaine Dupri are all products of Atlanta.  They are all still making music today after all these years!

The South Runs It

Lil Baby might be right about Atlanta being the “ruler of the culture” when you think about all the talent, past and present.  The South has been holding hip-hop down for years now, with Atlanta being at the forefront.  Memphis has been picking it up lately with all the new and exciting artists coming out of there.  And Florida has always had someone to represent.  It must be something in the water in the South.  Will Atlanta ever lose the crown?  If Lil Baby is around, I doubt it.

Latto Shoots Down “Lollipop” Rumors

Atlanta hitmaker Latto decided to address rumors that Lil Wayne denied a request to sample his hit track “Lollipop.” The story began to circulate after the “Big Energy” artist’s feud with Nicki Minaj went public.

“Lollipop” was a smash hit from Weezy’s Tha Carter III back in 2008. The song ended up hitting No. 1 on 4 Billboard charts, including the Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts.

A parody account of Pop Base had Twitter users believing a story about Latto wanting to sample “Lollipop” for her own project. However, the”Muwop” rapper then took to social media to address the speculation.

The exchange came after Latto became involved in a heated dispute with Nicki Minaj on Twitter two weeks ago. Minaj emerged onto the music scene in the late 2000s as a protege of Lil Wayne with Young Money.

The Twitter beef behind Latto & the “Lollipop” rumor

The beef between Latto and Nicki Minaj began over the latter’s complaints over her song “Super Freaky Girl.” Nicki called out the Recording Academy for placing “SFG” in the Grammys’ Pop categories, while suggesting the same should be done for Latto’s “Big Energy”. The two women were already dealing with behind-the-scenes tension, so the controversy led to the public Twitter argument.

Latto has previously worked with Lil Wayne on music. The Atlanta native collabed with Wayne and Childish Gambino on “Sunshine” for her latest album 777. The project, which dropped in March, is Latto’s second studio LP. 777 would go on to peak at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop” won the GRammy for Best Rap Song in 2009. The record also spent five weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, as well as being certified 8x platinum by the RIAA.

Nicki Minaj’s Songs Reportedly Still Up For Grammy Rap Nods

Nicki Minaj‘s complaints over Grammy rap nominations sparked a fierce controversy on Twitter. On Thursday, the Queen of Rap called out the Recording Academy for supposedly moving her single “Super Freaky Girl” to the Pop category.

“I have no prob being moved out [of] the RAP category as long as we [are] all being treated fairly,” Nicki tweeted. “If SFG has [to be] moved out RAP then so does ‘Big Energy’!”.

Nicki Minaj Could Still Land a Grammy Rap nod

However, some of Nicki Minaj’s music will still have the opportunity to win a Grammy in the rap category. According to a report by Variety, Minaj may appear in rap nominations, but not for “Super Freaky Girl.” Instead, she may appear for her collab with Lil Baby, “Do We Have a Problem?.”

“The Grammys’ rap screening committee apparently considered this more of a true [Hip-Hop song] and ‘Super Freaky Girl’ more pop in nature, splitting the difference,” Senior Music Writer Chris Willman wrote.

According to Willman, Nicki appears eight times on the Grammy ballot, with “Super Freaky Girl” keeping its place in the Pop category. The Academy also listed Minaj five times in rap categories. She can also earn two nominations in the music video category.

The Queens native’s initial complaints about the nominating process led to a bitter feud with “Big Energy” artist Latto. Over the course of Thursday night, the two women went back and forth on Twitter.

However, only the live version of Latto’s hit track is included in the submissions for Best Melodic Rap Performance. The Atlanta artist could see Best Rap Performance nods for “Sunshine”, “Booty” or “Mind Yo Business.” This means that “Super Freaky Girl” and “Big Energy” likely wouldn’t have competed for Best Rap Performance.

Nicki Minaj has been nominated for ten Grammys over the course of her career, including seven times in the Rap category. But the award has seemingly eluded her each time. Perhaps 2023 will finally be the year.

Nicki Minaj Beefs With Latto On Twitter

Nicki Minaj and Latto got into a war of words on Twitter. Late Thursday night, Nicki issued a tweet voicing her displeasure over the Grammys placing her song “Super Freaky Girl” in the Pop category. The decision came after the Bronx native submitted the song for consideration in the Rap category.

Nicki Minaj and Latto exchange words

Nicki Minaj went on to draw comparisons to Latto’s popular track “Big Energy,” which is under consideration for Best Rap Grammy. “I have no prob being moved out the Rap category as long as we r ALL being treated fairly,” Nicki tweeted. “If SFG has 2B moved out RAP then so does Big Energy! Any1 who says diff is simply a Nicki hater or a troll.”

The Queen of Rap’s comments come after Latto faced similar criticism from Kodak Black for winning Song of The Year at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards. The “Soufside” artist took to social media to respond to Nicki’s post. “D*mn I can’t win for losing…all these awards/noms I can’t even celebrate.”

While Latto agreed with Nicki’s initial sentiments, she privately messaged the Barb to address the issue. “I don’t think you need to bring my name/song up to prove a point,” the text read. But in true Nicki fashion, she didn’t hold back.

Nicki would post a screenshot of Latto’s message, calling her a “Karen.” She also criticized the Atlanta native for claiming to be a fan but not speaking up “for the Black woman she called her biggest inspiration.”

Throughout the night, the two would engage in a war of tweets and screenshots criticizing each other. Latto even posted screenshots of Instagram messages between them, claiming that Nicki has been throwing shade since March.

Judging by the nature of the exchange, it looks like things will end smoothly between the two female rappers.

Latto Isn’t Phased By Kodak Black’s Comments As She Flexes New Plaque

Earlier this week, Latto received her plaque for the hit song Big Energy going 2x Platinum & won a BET award. Kodak Black was also nominated for Song of the Year with his record Super Gremlin but is disappointed with the loss. After he called Latto out for the BET snub, she made sure to thank BET for the award. “Thank you @BET @BETAwards for giving me my flowers,” she captioned a video of her showing off her new Platinum plaque. Most rap fans are split on the decision because both songs are still huge records this year. Take a look at Latto flexing the new achievement below:

Does Kodak Have A Fair Point?

While Latto’s song Big Energy is deserving of the win, I don’t think anyone would’ve been surprised if Kodak won instead. Both Big Energy & Super Gremlin are quality records that have done huge numbers this year. The comparison is fair, but Kodak got a little disrespectful with his response. “Why y’all ain’t make my shit tie with a cappuccino? But y’all made sure Caresha Please be a tie with Drink Champs. … This whole shit looked like a damn plot,” the rapper pondered on Instagram live after his loss. Which song do you think deserved the win for BET‘s 2022 Song Of The Year?

Latto’s Success This Year With Career

On a positive note, her new plaque is just one of many things going right for the young star. Her album 777 released earlier this year & is her best performing album to date. In addition to having Big Energy on the tracklist, there’s also a load of different stars like Lil Wayne, Childish Gambino & more. Are you excited to see what’s next for Latto & her future moving forward?
