Top Performances At The 2022 BET Awards

The 2022 BET Awards took place Sunday, June 26th, with a wild night of entertainment and top-notch performances! With many awards, also including a lifetime achievement for P. Diddy, the event was star-studded from start to finish. The awards show features astounding performances; this year’s show also was no different.

Top Performances Of The Night

Lizzo

The show kicked off with a bang, with Lizzo bringing the audience to their feet. Opening her performance on the flute, Lizzo then dove into her hit single, “About Damn Time.” The artist was captivating as ever, with a sparkling disco-ball-inspired outfit. Her performance focused on body positivity and the need for social action, donating $1 million to Planned Parenthood.

Jack Harlow

Next, Jack Harlow took the spotlight, starting with his song “Poison.” Strutting around a basement set, Lil Wayne also joins Harlow to round out the track. As Harlow shifts into his hit single, “First Class,” Brandy also enters, much to the crowd’s surprise. Brandy delivers the most compelling lyrics of the performance, spitting her lyrics with absolute venom.

Doechii

Doechii delivered in spades in her debut BET performance. Emerging in all white, the artist opens with “Persuasive,” changing her wardrobe during the song. She then snatches off her wig as the backdrop shifts to black and red, bursting into her single “Crazy.” With a set enveloped in pyrotechnics and strobing visuals, Doechii made a lasting mark on the audience.

Muni Long

Muni Long’s performance shines, starting with “Time Machine.” With an ethereal opening, Long’s smooth lyrics are the focus until her feathered dress expands into a team of background dancers. With her hit “hrs and hrs,” Long’s feature is cemented with her vocals and beautiful choreography.

Final

Finally, the event honored P. Diddy, with Babyface and Kanye West presenting him with the Lifetime Achievement award. His musical tribute featured an unbelievably stacked cast, including Mary J. BligeBusta RhymesFaith Evans, and others. Diddy himself also performed, rattling off hits like “Victory” and “It’s All About The Benjamins.” The late Kim Porter, Diddy’s former partner, capped off the medley in a moving video tribute.

Latto Delivers With ‘Big Energy’ Performance At Billboard Music Awards

Latto put on a show on Sunday at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards. The Atlanta artist performed her hit song ‘Big Energy’ after being introduced by host Diddy. The rapper glistened in a silver outfit alongside several dancers throughout the performance.

With the release of “Big Energy” in September 2021, Latto earned her first No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. She later released a remix with Mariah Carey and DJ Khaled as features, which was also embraced by fans.

Latto previously became the first solo female rapper from Atlanta to have a platinum record with her 2019 song “B*tch From Da Souf”.

How Latto brought the “Big Energy” to Billboard

In a November interview with Billboard, Latto described how the song came to be during a recording session. “I went to the studio one day, and we were working on something else,” she remembered. “My A&Rs were like, ‘We have this other beat that we’re going to play, but I don’t think you’re going to like it.’ So they kind of skipped over it- [but] my manager was like, ‘Play it, because she might like it.’ I fell in love with the beat.”

Latto also recalled that it took some time for her to become fully comfortable with the song. “I tried it three different days before I was in pocket with and got in my zone- but when I did, it was up from there,” she said.

Ahead of her Billboard performance, Latto posted an Instagram story from the red carpet. “What’s up guys? It’s me, Latto, just wanted to give you guys a big shoutout to all my friends at Xfinity for bringing all the big energy to the Billboard Awards,” she said.

The 23 year old was nominated for her first ever Billboard Music Award on Sunday. She was nominated for Top Rap Female Artist, going up against Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion. Ultimately, the win went to Megan.

Latto’s ‘Big Energy’ Reaches No. 1 On Pop Radio

Latto has reached an important milestone with her song ‘Big Energy’. The track off of 777 reached the pole position on the Pop radio chart this week. This makes Latto the first female artist in 12 years to reach the top of the chart.

‘Big Energy’ also reached the top of the Rhythmic and Urban radio charts. Latto joins artists such as Beyonce, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige and Mariah Carey who also had #1 hits on all three charts.

The song has also been certified platinum by the RIAA while reaching No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Latto has also released a remix of ‘Big Energy’ featuring Mariah Carey and DJ Khaled.

Latto’s steady rise to stardom

The Atlanta rapper’s star has steadily risen over the past two years. After releasing “The Biggest”, the first track since her name change, she dropped ‘Big Energy’ in September 2021. The track immediately took off, due in large part to its success on the radio. In November, Latto made her late-night debut on Late Night with Seth Meyers with a performance of the song.

Latto also received nominations for Best New Artist and Best Female Hip-Hop Artist at the 2021 BET Awards. She also had performances at the BET Hip Hop Awards as well as the 2021 VMAs. In addition, she earned a VMA nomination for ‘Sex Lies’.

Her appearance on Chris Brown’s “Go Crazy” remix earned Latto nominations for two Soul Train Awards, as well as a 2022 NAACP Image Award. She was also featured in the soundtrack for Halle Berry’s Bruised with the song ‘The F**k.’

Latto then released her sophomore studio album 777 on March 25th of this year. Along with ‘Big Energy’, the project contains features from 21 Savage, Childish Gambino, Lil Wayne, Lil Durk, Nardo Wick and Kodak Black.

Latto’s New Album ‘777’ Featuring Lil Durk, 21 Savage, Kodak Black, And More, Is Here!

Latto’s new album 777, featuring Lil Durk, 21 Savage, Kodak Black, and more, has finally arrived.

The star-studded album, which dropped at midnight on Mar. 25, has 13 songs, including Latto’s latest track, “Wheelie.” The song debuted on Mar. 11 with an accompanying video and has garnered over two million views thus far.

It’s been a long time coming for the Georgia rapper, who first appeared on season one of Lifetime’s The Rap Game in 2016. The bright-eyed musician made her mark on the show with her hard-hitting lyricism and uber-cute style. While most music reality series contestants rarely make it to become big stars, she proved the world wrong. A fellow successful rapper, Brooklyn-born J.I. The Prince Of NY also appeared on The Rap Game, but he had done so in the second season.

777 has been the second album Latto released since her first, titled Queen Of Da Souf, in 2020. The first one spawned multiple hits, including “B***h From Da Souf,” “Muwop,” “In n Out,” “On God,” and “Sex Lies.” Her hit song “Big Energy,” which came out in 2021, has appeared on her second.

Latto Joined Many Podcasts and Radio Shows

During her recent press run for 777, she stopped by several popular podcasts and radio shows, including The Joe Budden Podcast, Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, and Hot 97’s Nessa On Air. During Latto’s run, she discussed a multitude of topics and dropped a fire freestyle. One particular issue struck a chord with fans: her thoughts on how the music business treats women.

“I’m a new female rapper in the game. I wish somebody [had given] me some insight [into] how this thing really go. Some people say, ‘Oh, female rappers have it harder,’ but I wanted to give a little insight as to what specifically makes it harder for a female rapper in the industry,” she told The Breakfast Club‘s Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God, and DJ Envy during her interview on Mar. 23.

Her comments were about a recent incident she revealed, where a male artist requested sex from her in exchange for a verse clearance.

Despite the drama, Latto’s 777 is here, and we couldn’t be more excited. More features on the album include Nardo Wick, Childish Gambino, and Lil Wayne. Congratulations to Big Latto!

Latto Releases New Music Video For “Wheelie” Feat. 21 Savage

Latto shares a new music video for “Wheelie” which features 21 Savage. The track serves as the second single off Latto’s sophomore studio album which follows up  2020’s Queen of da Souf.

Latto began teasing the song back in February, but it was unknown which artist would be assisting her. She announced the artist was a parent, a diamond-certified act, and a past Met Gala attendee, which caused many fans to guess rappers such as Cardi B or Nicki Minaj; however, Latto turned down those thoughts as soon as she confirmed she was working with a male artist. Just days after her song “Big Energy” broke the Hot 100’s top 20, the rapper dropped “Wheelie” which to a surprise featured 21 Savage.

Colin Tilley, director of “Wheelie,” hyped the release of the video via Twitter.

While the video takes place outside on the road, riding motorcycle’s and dancing in front of old cars until the sun goes down, Latto raps

“Slap on my cat, bet this ni*ga met his match, take his phone ‘fore I throw it back, ni*ga, this ain’t that, check in with me, I love a sneaky link, he ain’t eat the pu*sy right if he ain’t had to change the sheets, I love when he wear the grey sweats and that print show, now I ain’t tryna have his seed but this pu*sy water make the bed grow, cook for him like a housewife then fuck him good like a nympho, pay the rent and the car note, he invest in me like crypto…”

About a minute and 30 seconds into the video, Savage is seen wearing a long black jacket. Taking place in front of some stores and dancing on cars with Latto, he raps “Bad B!tches, I Got Several
She Eat The D!ck Like It’s Edible (On God)
Slob On My Knob, Fu*k That
Lick On Me, B!tch
Like An Animal (Straight Up)
I Want Some Top When I Get Down Slime
Opps Wanna Rap But Their A$$ Keep Dying

As we await her forthcoming album, it’s safe to say Latto did not come to play!

Cardi B & Halle Berry Release All-Women ‘Bruised’ Soundtrack

Halle Berry directed the upcoming motion picture Bruised, which will appear on Netflix.  The actress partnered up with Cardi B to executive produce a soundtrack for the film. Ultimately Berry said she wanted a powerful roster of women on the soundtrack of the film. The soundtrack line-up features some of the most prevalent female artists of today.

According to All Hip Hop, the soundtrack Bruised includes contributions by Cardi B, Saweetie, City Girls, H.E.R., Flo Milli, Latto, Young M.A., Baby Tate, Rapsody, Erica Banks, Big Bottle Wyanna, Ambre, and DreamDoll.  “Bet It” performed by Cardi B, opens the Warner Records-released project.

Berry stars in the film as a disgraced MMA fighter who gets back into the ring after her infant son becomes a part of her life again. In an interview with Billboard which was published Thursday (Nov. 17), Berry and Cardi sat down to discuss what it was like working together on the movie. “When I thought of what would be the voice that would be the pinnacle of what this soundtrack could be, of course I thought of the queen. Like who wouldn’t want to have a Cardi B song and have her voice and have her talents on their debut?” Berry said. Cardi states “I was like ‘Oh my gosh, is this happening? Is this the real Halle Berry? She knows me, she likes me, she loves me!’”

Cardi B Came Through In A Huge Way.

She explained they had some issues with the song and had to get certain rights to use it. The rapper went the extra mile to make sure that they got the rights. Berry said. “I can say, honestly, not everybody would have done that, and I so respect you. You said yes, and you stood by your word.” Check out the newly released single from the soundtrack; Cardi B, Bet It.

Bruised Will Go Down In Hip Hop History!
