Gucci Mane Tells Rappers To Stop Dissing The Dead On New Song

Gucci Mane is calling for his fellow rappers to stop dissing the dead. On his new song “Dissin’ the Dead,” the Alabama native expresses his regret over popularizing the trend of disrespecting fallen enemies. He also calls for the young generation to follow his lead.

A visual crafted by Omar the Director accompanies the song. In it, Gucci Mane posts up in a cemetery while wearing hoodies commemorating Trouble and Young Dolph. Coincidentally, the track dropped on Wednesday, which would’ve been Dolph’s 37th birthday.

Gucci Mane’s history of dissing the dead

Gucci Mane has done his fair share of dissing the dead, however. During his Verzuz with rival Jeezy, Guwop performed “The Truth”, a diss track aimed at Jeezy’s friend Pookie Loc. Gucci allegedly killed Pookie in self-defense in 2005.

Guwop added insult to injury after the song ended, continuing to disrespect Pooke in front of Jeezy. “Damn! Put that n***a’s a** in the dirt,” he taunted. “Smoking on Pookie Loc tonight.”

Gucci made another reference to Pookie on his “Rumors” collab with Lil Durk in January. “D.A dropped my murder, didn’t have evidence to prove it/I think my house is haunted, yeah, by who? The ghost of Pookie,” La Flare rapped.

However, Gucci Mane refers to Pookie on “Dissin’ the Dead” in a much more respectful manner. “I’m the one put your boy name on a stone/I dissed the dead and I knew it was wrong,” he says.

Dissing the dead in Hip Hop

Disrespecting the dead has become more prevalent in hip hop in recent years. Lil Durk dissed his late rival FBG Duck on the leaked track “High As Duck in December 2020. Meanwhile, NBA Youngboy made references to King Von’s murder on “Bring The Hook” earlier this year.

Recently, Soulja Boy appeared to make fun of Trouble’s passing in an Instagram rant following his murder in June. The pair exchanged words after Soulja released his song “Stretch Some” following Young Dolph’s murder.

Gucci Mane isn’t the only rapper to change his stance on disrespecting the dead. Last year, Lil Durk promised to stop the practice after the deluxe release of The Voice. Florida rapper Julio Foolio followed not long after, calling it “childish.”

Kendrick Lamar Brings Out Kodak Black During Rolling Loud Miami Set

Kendrick Lamar surprised the Rolling Loud Miami crowd when he brought out Kodak Black during his set. During his performance on the third and final day of the festival, K. Dot brought the “Super Gremlin” artist on to help close the night. The duo performed their collab “Silent Hill” from Kendrick’s new album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers together for the first time.

“Make some noise for my muthaf***ing n***a, Kodak muthaf***ing Black,” Kendrick Lamar shouted as he embraced Kodak Black on stage after the duet. “Love, love, love,” the Miami native responded.

Earlier on Sunday, Kodak took the stage at Rolling Loud for his own solo set. The 25-year-old was forced to wear an ankle monitor due to his recent arrest for drug trafficking. As a result of the incident, Yak was placed on house arrest.

Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar performed more tracks from his latest album such as “N95,” “Count Me Out,” and “Savior.” He also performed favorites from past albums such as m.A.A.d city, To Pimp a Butterfly and good kid.

Lamar’s cousin and fellow pgLang artist Baby Keem also joined Kendrick on stage to perform their hit song “family ties,” from Keem’s debut album The Melodic Blue.

Kendrick’s Rolling Loud Miami set coincided with his global tour for Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. The tour commenced in Oklahoma City last week and continues with a show in Tampa on Wednesday.

Other crowd surprises from Rolling Loud Miami

Fortunately for King Kenny, his show avoided the kind of trouble that hit Kid Cudi’s headlining performance on Friday. The “Man On The Moon” artist, who filled in last minute for Kanye West, stormed off early after being hit by objects from the crowd. However, Kanye showed up anyway and was brought out by Lil Durk during his set later that night.

Meanwhile, Future took top billing on Saturday and surprised his audience with Travis Scott. Scott was rumored to have been banned from Rolling Loud after 10 people died at his Astroworld Festival last November.

Latto’s steady rise to stardom

The Atlanta rapper’s star has steadily risen over the past two years. After releasing “The Biggest”, the first track since her name change, she dropped ‘Big Energy’ in September 2021. King Von’s Posthumous Album ‘What It Means To Be King’ Becomes His Highest Charting Project

King Von‘s posthumous album What It Means To Be King dropped on Mar. 4. The 19-track project debuted in the Top 5 of the Billboard 200 rankings. The album landed at #2 with 59,000 equivalent album units.

The achievement marks King Von’s second Top 10 entry following 2020’s Welcome to O’Block reaching no. 5 in the wake of his death. Of the 59,000 first-week units, 55,000 came from nearly 80 million on-demand streams. The album was distributed by Lil Durk’s Only The Family label and Empire.

What it meant to be King Von

King expands upon the vision laid out in Welcome To O’Block, showing how Von shaped his sound. The Chicago rapper’s personality and charisma seeps through every bar, reminding us of the qualities that made him one of the hottest young stars before his passing.

With features from artists such as Lil Durk, Moneybagg Yo, Fivio Foreign and 21 Savage, the album contains a mix of emotions highlighted by Von’s voice. It’s the events of Von’s past that produced some of his more memorable moments on wax, however.

The first half of the project calls on a sense of familiarity. Some features, such as Moneybagg Yo on ‘Trust Nothing,” act as a safety net for the rawness found in Welcome to O’Block. The list of guests eventually leads to “Evil Twin” with Lil Durk.

The song highlights the chemistry the two artists shared, reminding us of the loss that Durk faced in November 2020. It also shows Von’s ability to connect with home-bred talent on a musical level.

At its core, What It Means To Be King remains rooted in King Von’s affinity for the southside of Chicago and O’Block in particular. The solo tracks show the scars that defined the artist behind them, offering a glimpse into the dark side of Chicago.

The album captures Von’s raw conviction and urgency in each bar. His storytelling was one of his strongest attributes as an artist until his death. In the center of his music lies an exploration of the circumstances he was born into.

Lil Durk Drops Final Single For 7220 and Announces Free Bitcoin To Celebrate

As the buildup for Lil Durk‘s new album 7220 continues, the rapper dropped the fourth and final single before its release on Friday. The visual for the song, titled Golden Child, was also released on Thursday. Check out the video below.

The video sees Durk hanging with members of his OTF crew while flexing stacks of cash. To hype up the release of 7220, Durk asked fans to drop their cashapp handles on Twitter and announced his plans to give away $7,220 in bitcoin to celebrate.

Durk and NBA YoungBoy clash before 7220

Lyrically, Golden Child is devoid of any mention of Lil Durk’s ongoing feud with NBA YoungBoy. The beef between the two stars has heated up amidst the hype for their respective projects. Recently, rumors began to circulate that YoungBoy might sabotage Durk’s release with an album of his own on Friday.

However, the Chicago rapper announced on Instagram that anyone who wants to drop on March 11 is welcome to. Durk also included a shoutout to his friend, the late King Von. Von’s posthumous release, What It Means to be King, moved 65,000 units in its first week.

The late artist’s drop wasn’t without its own controversy, however. Youngboy seemingly attempted to sabotage Von’s release by dropping a collab with DaBaby. The track, titled BETTER THAN YOU,  only moved around 30,000 units.

It’s no surprise that YoungBoy has been coming for Durk and OTF. This has been apparent since the release of his diss track I Hate YoungBoy on February 22, where he called out Durk, Von and even Gucci Mane. The track was created in response to the lead single of 7220, titled AHH HA, where Durk had words for YoungBoy and his ex-girlfriend.

Durk also dropped the tracklist for 7220 via social media on Wednesday. The album is slated to have 17 tracks and include features from Summer Walker, Gunna, Future and even country star Morgan Wallen.

Meek Mill Announces Plans To Take A Hiatus From Social Media

Meek Mill is notorious for his Twitter posts where he expresses his thoughts and opinions. Meek’s tendency for venting on social media inspired Drake to coin the term “Twitter Fingers.”

Meek Mill appears to be ready to take a break from his online behavior. The emcee from Philadelphia informed his almost 11 million Twitter followers he will take a hiatus from the social media platform.

“About to take a break from social media… I see too much crazy shit!” tweeted Meek Mill on November 11. He added, “Being a young kid gotta be confusing as shit in these times of social media… I be lost seeing some of this stuff.”

Young Thug, and the Negative Effects of Social Media

Young Thug spoke about social media in a video that went viral a few days ago. The YSL icon made a brief mention of reading through timelines and feeling down, which is a common gripe among social media users. Subsequently, many platforms have attempted to reduce negative feelings experienced when using particular websites and apps, but consumers have taken matters into their own hands and temporarily disconnected from social media entirely.

“Bro, I just noticed like when I look at the Internet, when I look at Instagram and like you know Twitter and shit, I get depressed, bro. ,” the “Go Crazy,” emcee said in a black-and-white video posted on Instagram. “This shit is like burnt the fuck out, bro. This shit [is] depressing.”

Meek Mill is fresh off the release of his fifth studio album, “Expensive Pain” which released on October 1. On the Billboard 200 album list, the album reached #3.

“Expensive Pain” produced ten tracks that charted on the Billboard Hot 100. The song “Sharing Locations” featuring Lil Baby and Lil Durk made it into the Top 25 of the weekly singles chart. The album features artists like Kehlani, A$AP Ferg, Moneybagg Yo, Giggs, Young Thug, Vory, Lil Uzi Vert, and Brent Faiyaz.

French Montana Upsets Lil Durk Fans In Twitter Rant

French Montana is trending, but not for his music. This comes after the popular Netflix show Squid Games prompted its participants to name five French Montana songs without features. This request was difficult for the participants.

https://twitter.com/sticktalkz/status/1452678695815053313?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1452678695815053313%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.xxlmag.com%2Ffrench-montana-lil-durk-people-confused%2F

In response, Montana tweeted a list of songs that answered the question. He continued with an array of “they got amnesia” tweets to those seemingly downplaying his contributions today’s rap game.

The tweet that started a Twitter war

Lil Durk’s history with French Montana

Talks of Lil Durk signing with French Montana’s Coke Boys took over media in 2013.  Days after releasing his long-awaited debut Excuse My French, Montana promptly, set out to sign the then solo artist, Lil Durk.

In a sit-down with XXL magazine(2013), Durk was asked about his relationship with French Montana. He responded, “That’s my homie, he’s like a big brother to me. He talks to me every day, I call him every day and talk about everything music-wise.” It was clear that he and Montana were in the process of penning the deal attaching him to Montana’s label.

At the time the signing would happen, Durk has 3 mixtapes that had the Chicago native a concrete fan base.  With his street rap and street lifestyle, it was clear he has a solid following. Hence, the confusion after Montana’s Twitter rant.

In 2013, Durk signed with Def Jam causing speculations of what caused the deal to fall through with Coke Boys.  Fans would not get a clear answer until 2019.

Kindling after the “fallout”

In 2019, Durk gave fans a bit of insight into his fallout with Montana.  He shared a snippet of his song Take Drugs.

“When I fell out with French Montana that sh*t did me damage. I learned the rules of a contract but I was planning on singing. He picked me up when Def Jam didn’t, he turned me diamond. Now I’m the voice of the streets, perfect timing,”

Montana proved he was expressly unbothered by the verse saying, “Brothers 4life let’s finish what we started !!” Given that this comment followed the death of New York rapper Chinx, this common woe bonded the two.  Montana and Chinx had collaborated on several tracks dating back to 2012.

Lil Durk Joins French Montana's Coke Boyz Crew – Fake Shore Drive®
(Left to right) Wale, French Montana, Chinx, Lil Durk pictured after announcing Durk would sign to Coke Boys in 2013.

Durk explained in an interview with VladTV(2018), that he didn’t sign with Montana because he was “young and dumb.” He shared he was unable to discern the people in his ear telling him not to do it at the time. Durk noted he would’ve signed the deal if he knew what he knows now. This interview would also answer the inquires of his split with Def Jam.

After his five year with Def Jam, Durk announced he was going independent. He also shared with Billboard, “I’ve been with Def Jam Records for five years and they gave me my first recording contract so for that I’m forever grateful,” Durk says. “But I’m a different artist than I was five years ago, and the time is right for a change.

Should we expect a collaboration? No matter Montana’s claims, Durk fans show their loyalty to their favorite rapper.

Lil Baby Caught Up In Latest Fake Jewelry Scam

Lil Baby has become the latest rapper to purchase fake jewelry from after-market jewelers.  Earlier this week, rapper Lil Durk took to Twitter to warn others of jewelers ripping off clients.  Just as Durk announced his run-in with jewelry scammers, Lil Baby was next on the list.  Lil Baby purchased what he was told was a Patek Phillippe 40th Anniversary Nautilus.  Valued at $625,000, the purchase price of $400,000 raised concerns of jewelry appraisers.

On its 40th anniversary, Patek made specific upgrades to commemorate the original piece by launching the 5711/1P in a 44.05 millimeter-wide, all-platinum case. The 1976 version featured a metal case.  In return, this advancement skyrocketed the value of the watch.  Can you blame Baby for his attraction to this limited edition timepiece?

Unfortunately, this is not the first time Lil Baby has been a catalyst for exposing the fakes.  After the release of his sophomore album “My Turn,” Lil Baby purchased chains for friends.  Following the reveal of the chain, Wal-Mart simultaneously released an identical chain that third-party market sellers had produced.  Lil Baby made comments directed at the wholesale chain.  In addition, Wal-Mart became a target for celebrities announcing their sale of knock-off items.  However, knock-off products still find their way onto the shelves.

Lil Baby took to Instagram saying, “…see this why I need to be on the list!! After-market jewelers going to me do some I shouldn’t be doing.” Let’s hope he can recuperate the money spent and gain traction on spotting fake jewelry. Let us know what you think on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook: @FMHipHop.

Lil Baby and Lil Durk Team Up for “Voice of The Heroes” Music Video

Lil Baby and Lil Durk Team Up for ‘Voice of the Heroes” Music Video

Something special is coming. Lil Baby and Lil Durk are collaborating on a new project, entitled “The Voice of the Heroes!”

Lil Baby took to Instagram to share the album cover along with the release date, set to come out Friday.

In addition, the two artists released a music video for the title track of the record. The song highlights many aspects of their personal life from childhood to struggles of fame and fortune. The song is slightly somber, but triumphant in a way. A voice of change and hope. The music video is in Lil Baby’s hometown.

The album seems to speak on the political tension that has been prevalent in the media for the last year. Lil Baby has made it a point to talk about the issues he sees in his community. His Grammy award-winning single “The Bigger Picture” was highly acclaimed for its message on police brutality and racism in the black community. This song rocked the music industry when it came out, at the height of the Black Lives Matter movement last summer. The music video was extremely powerful and set the stage for Lil Baby to do much community outreach and work after, including financially supporting the family of George Floyd, a black man who was tragically murdered by police in Minneapolis last year.

This song seems to be a continuation of those themes and subject matters, along with his friend and fellow rapper Lil Durk. This album has people already talking and everyone is highly anticipating a great project from the duo.

What do you think the themes of the album will be?
