NBA YoungBoy Does Not Listen To Hip Hop?

Due to his legal troubles,  YoungBoy Never Broke Again does not give many official interviews. However, there was one recently that gave some surprising information.

He had recently gotten a three-hour interview with DJ Akademiks just a couple of days ago on Clubhouse. According to Hot New Hip Hop, Akademiks asks him if he listens to various other musicians. Some of which, he has featured in songs with.

“You listen to Polo G?” asked DJ Akademiks.

“Fuck no,” replied NBA YoungBoy. “You talkin’ crazy, you playin’.”

“Man, I’m just asking, man,” said Akademiks before leading into his next question. “Like, [21] Savage. Savage is my n***a. He dope.”

“Fuck no!” said YoungBoy.

“What about Yungeen Ace?” asked Akademiks.

After giving that one some thought, he went on to answer the exact same thing, uttering, “Fuck no. Shit, no.”

“Baby?” questioned Akademiks, referring to Lil Baby.

“No,” calmly responded NBA YoungBoy.

YoungBoy is a lone wolf type of person. He only collabs with someone that is already signed with his label. Otherwise, he only does solo songs. This is in combination with him getting further out of the music scene after getting out of jail. He said music “brings too many problems” to his life. “I been wanting to stop doing music since two and a half years ago. I’m really getting to that breaking point of, like, ‘Fuck that shit.’ I used to make five, 10 songs a day. Now I make like two songs.” YoungBoy concluded if he could be “normal” but maintain his income, he’d give up music immediately. However, he still has one more album to his contract with Atlantic Records.

NBA’s loyalty to the Bayou

While Youngboy may not listen to certain rappers, his new collaboration with Birdman is giving loyalty to the Bayou. Here is what you can expect from their new mixtape.

Virgil Abloh: A Designer For The Culture

Renowned designer Virgil Abloh tragically passed away Sunday at the age of 41. While battling silently with a rare form of cancer, he continued to pour out the mastery of his craft. From styling the greats, to designing for one of the most iconic fashion houses, he leaves an enormous legacy in his wake.

Virgil Abloh was known for his close-working relationship with Kanye West. He assisted in crafting modern fashion with his unique taste. He created his brand Off-White in 2013, leading to a partnership with Louis Vuitton in 2018. Although he was vastly known for his work in fashion, his influence on hip-hop has been cemented for years to come. Let’s dig a little deeper.

The Virgil Abloh Influence

The culture of rap and hip-hop, especially its overlap with fashion and streetwear, is the foundation of Abloh’s designs. He both marveled at the culture and influenced it, without rapping. With today’s hottest rappers mentioning his name, he didn’t have to drop a verse.

“Life Is Good”- Future ft. Drake

“Haven’t done my taxes I’m too turnt up. Virgil got a Patek on my wrist goin nuts.”

“Surf”- Young Thug ft. Gunna

“Virgil been sending me drip just to see if I like it, or rockin wit it.”

“Virgil Discount”- 2 Chainz ft. Skooly

“Walked out of Louis lookin like a Virgil discount, if it ain’t a hundred, its a miscount.”

His Cover Art Genius

With Abloh’s catalog is not lengthy enough, why not add album cover curator to the list? Cover art, like rap music itself, is it’s own art form. It gives a listening eye to what’s expected of the album. Here are some of the most iconic albums and covers that illustrate Abloh’s design genius:

Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Released in 2010, Abloh was a credited designer on the cover art for Kanye’s masterpiece. Abloh enlisted George Condo to produce several pieces to showcase throughout the album art. Although some of the controversial images were frowned upon, they pushed the boundaries on what rap album covers would look like. Condo expressed, “Virgil makes things happen, intrinsically knowing that his talent is to move into an electric field and create a transcendent art experience for our people.” This insert is from Abloh’s Figures of Speech book.

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch The Throne

Watch The Throne was undoubtedly one of the greatest albums to slam hip-hop lover’s ears. Two greats collaborated on a hype, flashy, luxurious album. Virgil illustrated the theme of the album effortlessly, creating an intricate gold plaque. It was truly fitting for the hip-hop throne.

Kid Cudi’s WZRD

Kid Cudi and close friend Virgil foreseeably collaborated to produce this simple but futuristic design. As Cudi put it, his “ahead of the curve” designs placed him a step ahead of other designers on this 2012 project.

A$AP Rocky’s Long.Live.A$AP

This classic album, dropped 2014 and released on streaming last month, set a young A$AP Rocky apart from the rest. As if the name wasn’t enough, the album cover made this one easily recognizable. To put it another way, Virgil showed undeniable talent. The grey tones exhibited timelessness, hence “long live.”

Celebrating Abloh’s life

After news of Abloh’s passing, Kanye West dedicated his Sunday service to his longtime friend. While this dedication was fitting, it was a tough pill to swallow for Ye. As creative director of Donda, Abloh’s magic touch will be missed, but lasting. Kanye enlisted Adele to sing her hit “Easy on Me” in Abloh’s memory.

This is surely a difficult time for his family, friends, and admirers. All of us at FMHipHop.com send our condolences to Abloh’s friends, family and fans.

The FMHip Hop Review: Young Thug’s ‘Punk’

Young Thug’s Punk is possibly the most anticipated album of 2021.  The Atlanta native knows how to build mystery in the hip-hop game. He shattered the glass of hip-hop expectations. Thug’s adlibs are unique and sought after by the industry’s greatest.  Notably, collaborations with Lil Wayne, J. Cole, Travis Scott, and Drake, raise the anticipation of what’s in store.

Thug recently appeared on The Breakfast Club for the first time in his career! Charlemagne admittedly stated, “Your voice is like an instrument. It sounds like it is a part of the beat.” Perhaps this is what sets him apart from those he’s outlasted in the game.  Thugger is known to keep it interesting.

The Cover Art

Right away we know that Thugger is gracing his fans with a life-reflecting album.  His cover art was flawlessly executed by Japanese artist SmileComplexx.  He pays homage to Octavio Ocampo who is renowned for his metamorphic painting technique. Significantly, one image of a dreamy visual concept transforms into an image of a similar look. Ultimately, representing another concept entirely. Thug is depicted facing himself, suggestively his alter ego. This album cover allows your eye to dance from corner to corner while going on a journey with the rapper.

Raising the bar

Punk, features an abundance of star collaborations like Drake, Travis Scott, J. Cole, Gunna, Future, Doja Cat, Post Malone, ASAP Rocky, and more.

The elemental track Die Slow, set the tone for the album as it features rapper Strick from his YSL record label. The opening is almost ritualistic as it confiscates your thoughts and hearkens to the lyrics. This was achieved through inviting guitar strums and gradually building drums. Right away you know that you are in for an adventure through Thugger’s mind.

“I gotta tell you that you’ll die tonight. You can go against these people you gone die slow, die slow.”

Thug premiered Die Slow at Rolling Loud in July, then again on Tiny Desk Concert. Although the song was recorded in 2019 in Italy, it is true to the rapper’s album portrayal. The features on this album are classic Thug collaborations.  His collaboration with J. Cole on Stressed is comparatively one of the most bountiful tracks with Cole’s quick flow and higher than normal pitched raps.

Throughout the album, Thug sings of his love woes. Stupid/Asking is a two in one melodic track. This track takes you on an emotional ride with this signature theme heard throughout. His effortless singing and subtle instrument establishments show the depth his music portrays.

Ode to the fallen

Adding more thirst for the 20 track album, Punk hosts a collaboration with the late Mac Miller. Day Before is a sought-after track due to its significant addition to the re-released Faces, by Miller’s estate.  This comes three years after his unfortunate passing.

Thug most recently revealed that the unreleased track was recorded the day before Miller’s passing in an interview with The Breakfast Club . He also features a long-time friend, the late Juice WRLD on Rich N**** Sh*t.  This dup is an obvious addition due to its nostalgic nature.

All in all, Thug gave us hit after hit on this album.  Not only does this release showcase evident growth for the artist, but also indicates that he has much more in store for his fans.

Young Thug Leaves It All And More On The Breakfast Club

Young Thug appears at The Breakfast Club, and is on tip of everyone’s tongue! Despite it being his first interview at the show, Thug definitely left his mark as one of the most extraordinary appearances on the show. The rapper talks beef, new album, Mac Miller collaboration, and so much more!

Thug squashes beef with Charlamagne

Following the release of Punk, his second album, Thug continues to let his name ring on all media fronts. Charlamagne Tha God opened the interview with a humorous approach in introducing Young Thug. The two settle on calling him Mr. Sex. Setting the tone for this overdue encounter, the two put their drawn-out “beef” to bed. In a clip shared, Thug responded to an exchange between Birdman and Charlemagne a few years back. Thug cleared the air by saying, “I never understood how could it go so far, we were just talking sh*t. And I was kind of young back then.”

Charlemagne continues by giving him accolades for his extended stint in the music industry. Surprisingly, Char addresses a faltered prediction he made on Vlad TV 10 years ago. He had sided with the possibility that Rich Homie Quan would outlast Thug in the industry. Thug was enthused but jokingly asked, “How you feel about that?”

On this insider, the rapper also let the audience in on the recording of his latest album Punk. He addressed accusations that he copied Kanye’s idea to require one color scheme at either’s listening party. Throughout the interview, the rapper is very calm and expressive to all questions about the hosts. He gives insight into his substantial relationship with fellow Atlanta rapper Lil Baby.

Thug talks Juice WRLD and Mac Miller at The Breakfast Club

Thug gave a gracious response to his dealings with the death of two of his industry friends; Juice WRLD and Mac Miller. Charlamagne inquired about whether or not he had gotten over their deaths. Thug urgently replied, “no.” He continued, “I think I’m still running from it.” Thug shocked the hosts revealing that he and Miller recorded Day Before, the day before Mac died.

In hindsight, this long-awaited interview was on time for the public. Thug showcased his gracious nature. he gave a transparent look into his life, much like his new album. Thug spoke entirely of growth and gave fans what they craved since he does not partake in many interviews.

When Will Nicki Minaj Release a New Album?

Nicki Minaj has kept the Barbz universe on lock awaiting her next new album. One of the most versatile artists of our time, the “Queen of Rap” never disappoints when releasing projects. Her singular lyrics and vocals defy genres. But Nicki hasn’t released a new solo album since 2018’s Queen.  Needless to say, the Barbz are heavily anticipating her 5th studio album.

What has Nicki been up to?

Nicki has been in mommy mode following the birth of her first child, Papa Bear, in 2020. Her son celebrates his first birthday today. But the rapper hasn’t stayed completely quiet on the music front. In May, she re-released her 2009 mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty with 3 brand-new tracks, including YMCMB banger “Seeing Green,” featuring Drake and Lil Wayne.  Beam Me Up Scotty debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, becoming the highest-charting re-released project from a rapper and the highest-debuting female rap mixtape in Billboard 200 history. Keeping the momentum, she then hopped on Skillibeng’s “Crocodile Teeth Remix.”

What do we know about her next album?

Nicki has continued to drop hints about her forthcoming 5th studio album. During a live session on Instagram, she teased fans with an unreleased song called “Big Barbie.” Together with Future, the song was recorded for Queen, but didn’t make the final cut. Nicki previously hinted at the album in 2019, sharing track “Barbie Going Bad” over Meek Mill’s “Going Bad” instrumental.

Later that year, Nicki confirmed to Elle that there was indeed a new project on the way, describing it as “fierce, fun and unapologetic. She also shared she’ll be introducing a new alter ego to her collection, by the name of Queen Sleeze. Queen Sleeze is “more calm but way deadlier” than Nicki, according to the rapper herself.

So far, the upcoming album has no official title. But Nicki has teased fans with titles like “PF2” on social media, hinting at the possibility of a sequel to her smash 2010 debut album, Pink Friday. Celebrating the anniversary of Pink Friday in 2020, the Queen of Rap shared a video via Twitter:

Awaiting the release of the highly anticipated project, fans are picking up every drop of what Nicki is putting down. Whether fighting against vaccination requirements, sharing cute baby pics, or slaying high-fashion looks, one way or another the Queen is staying relevant. Now, only time will tell whether or not her 5th album will rise to the hype.

What are you expecting from Nicki’s next project? Sound off with us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. We love to hear what you think!

Kanye Buys $57.3 Million Dollar Mansion To Be Closer To Home

It seems like every week Kanye West makes headlining news. This week we are back with a new headline and this time it’s strictly art. Kanye has bought a $57.3 million dollar mansion on the coast of Malibu, surprisingly just 30 minutes away from his baby mama Kim Kardashian. The home is 4,000 square feet and stretches from the road to nearly the water line of the ocean itself. Though looking from the outside, it may not appear so, as massive the home was designed as a military bunker.

https://twitter.com/HotNewHipHop/status/1440091679088840707?s=20

The home was designed and built by Tadao Ando a Japanese architect from Osaka, Japan. Ando is has become famous for his ‘haiku effect in his designs giving the feeling of nothing or little work when indeed the project is complex and takes a lot of thought.  It required 1200 tons of poured concrete, with 200 tons of reinforced steel driven 60 feet into the ground just to keep it stable sitting off the sandy coast.

https://twitter.com/Kdgohard_/status/1440098213499789312?s=20

Mr. West has a downside to this beautiful and expensive home though. He is very close to busy streets and traffic. Also there is not much space between him and his neighbors, making it a bit difficult for some privacy. Paparazzi will certainly know when Kanye’s home.

Kanye West has always been into aesthetics. He tweeted back in 2018 that we would all be living in a James Turrel-style home or work mimics by James Turrel (per HNHH).

If you don’t know who Turrel is, he is an artist and architect combining the two into a living experience. Remaking modern art as a day-to-day lifestyle, so to speak. He created the structures for Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’ video he also designed the rings for Apple’s ring-shaped campus as well.

What’s your take on this new home Kanye has purchased? Did he move here to be closer to his family? Maybe rekindle his relationship with Kim? Let us know in the comments below.

‘Alot Of This Sh*t Fake’ Lil Durk Advises against Jewelry Shopping

One of the more prominent names in hip hop and quite frankly by the numbers is becoming a household name among the heavyweights in the rap game is Lil Durk.

AKA Durkio aka Smurk advises against big-time flexing via his Instagram story.

Stop buying all this jewelry without knowing what you doing a lot of the shit is fake and some is overpriced get 1 jeweler and stick to em I’m telling you y’all ass gone be pissed when the truth comes out.”  (Per HNHH).

https://twitter.com/KinggrF/status/1437688671319121923?s=20

What was the motivation behind the message? We don’t quite know. However, we are certain that it was aimed at someone. Rappers are no strangers to a “luxurious lifestyle”. They don’t mind reminding you just how broke you really are. Yet who can blame them if you’ve been at the bottom? Durk might be explaining things from behind the scenes he obviously knows something about the jeweler industry that we all may not know.

Durk: Keep it on the DL?

Apparently, certain rappers don’t know it either. Perhaps Dirk’s intended message was to not draw any unwanted attention your way especially if you are adapting from a street lifestyle into a popular artist one. Lil Durk may be going through some major life-changing events after he and his girlfriend were shot at earlier this summer. Right before that occasion, Durk lost his older brother, gunned down amid the release of his with Lil Baby, “Voice of the Heroes”.

Durk also stated that he would not be a name drop any more people in his music moving forward. This sounds like a Durk maturing as an artist and as a man. We hope to continue to see more of his leadership in the rap game. Leave us a comment telling us what you think about Lil Durk advising against certain jewelers in the rap game.

Andre 3000 Issues Statement Regarding the Leaked Song “Life of The Party” with Kanye

It’s not often we get to hear from the nomadic legend and arguably one of the best MCs in the rap game. Mr. Andre 3000, who is rarely spotted out in the public eye, the last we saw of him he was in a random town playing the flute blending in with civilians not trying to be seen at all. One thing he always does is gift us with a feature like we’ve never heard before. This time we finally caught a glimpse of him on an unreleased track on Kanye West’s 10th studio album Donda, which by our surprise never made it to the final album cut.

Drake leaks unreleased Kanye x Andre 3000 track

Somehow the track got in the hands of Drake himself, Kanye West’s camp suspects there is a mole, or someone on his team paid someone off to send the track to Drake. Either way, Drake released the track on Sirius XM radio blasting the internet and we can’t get enough of hearing Andre 3000 come to life.

Andre wanted no part of the beef

Though the track was beautiful and filled with so much emotion, Mr. 3000 had no intention of being part of the 3-year brewing feud between Drake and Kanye West. He issued a statement explaining his distaste for how the track release went down.

“The track I received and write to didn’t have the diss verse on it and we were hoping to make a more focused offering for the Donda album, but I guess things happen like they are supposed to.” Andre expresses his gratitude for both artists and she’s his desire to work not only with Kanye and Drake but with Lil Baby, Tyler, and Jay-Z as well. Initially, Kanye reached out to Andre for the track placement that shared similar grief in pain seeing how both lost their mothers to heart conditions. Kanye’s mother passed in 2017 and Andre’s mother passed in 2013 (per Peoples).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUXgq_C9LcU

If you have not had a chance to hear the song snippet, check it out here. Tell us in the comments what you think about the situation. Should Drake have released Kanye’s song? Is Kanye wring for recruiting Andre for a diss track?

Pusha T Confirms His Album is Coming Soon at Jay-Z’s 40/40 18th Anniversary

Just after the recent release of the Donda album, Good Music’s president Terrence Thornton aka Pusha T was spotted at Jay-Z’s 40/40 club on the dawn of its 18th anniversary. There has been speculation that Push will be releasing an album this year, but now we have full confirmation. “New Album coming soon check for Donda,” Pusha T told reporters. Fans of Good Music have been in an uproar waiting for the release of Donda. Push took to his Instagram amid the release, “this is about money, power, influence, and taste… nothing more nothing less. Watching you “joystick the culture” makes us all proud. Continue to do things your way, congrats, and I’m honored to have been a part of the process” (per HNHH).

https://twitter.com/HotNewHipHop/status/1432046584213250050?s=20

After 3 listening parties, the release of some never-before-seen producer technology and some very wild theatrics including a few headbutts between the greats along with Kendrick’s return. We finally got the Donda album. Pusha played a big role in the creation of this album being Kanye’s right-hand man. The two have spent over a decade building the Good Music empire. Anchored down tightly by artists such as Common, John Legend, Kid Cudi, Big Sean, Travis Scott and many more.

It’s been three years since the release of Daytona, Pusha T’s 2018 album of the year nominee. Which was a self-proclaimed debut dabbling into a rap beef and coming out victorious against America’s favorite rapper and billboard baby Aubrey Graham aka Drake. Now it’s time for the return and we are all curious about what he has to say. He never fails at capturing the drug dealer esque.

Fans are curious will this album address any more hidden beef between him and Drake? The feud between Kanye and Drake along with Pusha T has lasted just about 3 years now. Amid becoming a father, a married man and a businessman, we expect to hear a sonically in-depth look into push’s new life ventures.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4SEJLTPGzk

Though the drug dealer aesthetics relay the same message we enjoy and look forward to hearing how he creates. Will you be checking for Pusha T’s new album this year? Let us know in the comments!
