Latto Shoots Down “Lollipop” Rumors

Atlanta hitmaker Latto decided to address rumors that Lil Wayne denied a request to sample his hit track “Lollipop.” The story began to circulate after the “Big Energy” artist’s feud with Nicki Minaj went public.

“Lollipop” was a smash hit from Weezy’s Tha Carter III back in 2008. The song ended up hitting No. 1 on 4 Billboard charts, including the Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts.

A parody account of Pop Base had Twitter users believing a story about Latto wanting to sample “Lollipop” for her own project. However, the”Muwop” rapper then took to social media to address the speculation.

The exchange came after Latto became involved in a heated dispute with Nicki Minaj on Twitter two weeks ago. Minaj emerged onto the music scene in the late 2000s as a protege of Lil Wayne with Young Money.

The Twitter beef behind Latto & the “Lollipop” rumor

The beef between Latto and Nicki Minaj began over the latter’s complaints over her song “Super Freaky Girl.” Nicki called out the Recording Academy for placing “SFG” in the Grammys’ Pop categories, while suggesting the same should be done for Latto’s “Big Energy”. The two women were already dealing with behind-the-scenes tension, so the controversy led to the public Twitter argument.

Latto has previously worked with Lil Wayne on music. The Atlanta native collabed with Wayne and Childish Gambino on “Sunshine” for her latest album 777. The project, which dropped in March, is Latto’s second studio LP. 777 would go on to peak at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop” won the GRammy for Best Rap Song in 2009. The record also spent five weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, as well as being certified 8x platinum by the RIAA.

Nicki Minaj Beefs With Latto On Twitter

Nicki Minaj and Latto got into a war of words on Twitter. Late Thursday night, Nicki issued a tweet voicing her displeasure over the Grammys placing her song “Super Freaky Girl” in the Pop category. The decision came after the Bronx native submitted the song for consideration in the Rap category.

Nicki Minaj and Latto exchange words

Nicki Minaj went on to draw comparisons to Latto’s popular track “Big Energy,” which is under consideration for Best Rap Grammy. “I have no prob being moved out the Rap category as long as we r ALL being treated fairly,” Nicki tweeted. “If SFG has 2B moved out RAP then so does Big Energy! Any1 who says diff is simply a Nicki hater or a troll.”

The Queen of Rap’s comments come after Latto faced similar criticism from Kodak Black for winning Song of The Year at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards. The “Soufside” artist took to social media to respond to Nicki’s post. “D*mn I can’t win for losing…all these awards/noms I can’t even celebrate.”

While Latto agreed with Nicki’s initial sentiments, she privately messaged the Barb to address the issue. “I don’t think you need to bring my name/song up to prove a point,” the text read. But in true Nicki fashion, she didn’t hold back.

Nicki would post a screenshot of Latto’s message, calling her a “Karen.” She also criticized the Atlanta native for claiming to be a fan but not speaking up “for the Black woman she called her biggest inspiration.”

Throughout the night, the two would engage in a war of tweets and screenshots criticizing each other. Latto even posted screenshots of Instagram messages between them, claiming that Nicki has been throwing shade since March.

Judging by the nature of the exchange, it looks like things will end smoothly between the two female rappers.

Joe Budden Calls Adam22 “Disgusting” Over Kevin Samuels Content

It’s rare to hear podcasters going out! So when sources unveiled that Joe Budden has a distaste for Adam22, it was a total shock!

As per HotNewHipHop, the rap veteran isn’t too fond of the No Jumper host because of comments he made following relationship expert Kevin Samuel‘s passing. Without considering the repercussions of his actions, Adam22 used the opportunity to share moments from his interview with Samuels. Budden didn’t like this move, and so he vocalized it during an episode of his podcast. After throwing shade at Adam22, he said, “Rest in peace.” Immediately Budden rebutted with “I don’t like what you [meaning Adam22] did after he died.”

After repeatedly calling Adam22’s behavior “disgusting,” the host took time to clear the air. He reasons by saying it’s an “insane position for somebody in media to hold.”

Joe Budden continues, “Somebody dies, there’s a huge demand for that content, you re-upload it, people see it on their subscription feed, they click on it because this is a very talked-about thing.”

However, Joe Budden still wasn’t having it.

“What is your job as a content creator? Your job is to make content and get that content out to the people that want to see it.” After, he stood his stance on Adam22 being “disgusting.”

Joe Budden told the audience in a sarcastic tone,

“He didn’t slander his name, he just re-uploaded everything on Kevin Samuels in the moment that he died.”

But Adam22 attempted to save face, saying that almost immediately after Samuels’s death was confirmed, he began releasing clips of Samuels because people wanted to see that content.

Similarly, Budden told Adam22 that his actions were nasty, adding that his actions were for clout before his loved ones were adequately notified. After Adam wonders how he was capitalizing off Samuel’s death if it’s the content people want, Budden tells him that if he wanted to make a difference, then to turn off monetization. As a result, the two continued to go head-to-head.

Before he passed away, Nicki Minaj spoke with dating advisor Kevin Samuels on Instagram Live. They conversed about men, women, and partnerships during their time online.

BIA Shares Her Thoughts on J. Cole’s ‘London’ Verse

BIA shared her reaction to hearing J. Cole’s verse on her newest hit single “London.” The Medford, Massachusetts native has been on the rise since her appearance on the TV show Sisterhood of Hip Hop.

While on the red carpet at the 2022 BET Awards, BIA opened up on her reaction to hearing J. Cole’s bars on the hit single for the first time. The song sees both BIA and Cole adopt British accents, with Cole’s being prominent in his verse.

“I lost it because, Cole, really every single bar is so crazy. Crazier than the last one,” she explained. She also praised Cole for his ability to rap in a British accent. “First of all, who rhymes that good, in an accent? I thought I was going to be the only one doing the accent, but he did the accent. So, he killed it.” BIA capped off her feelings by saying how it was “an honor to have him [J.Cole] on the song.”

While in London for a guest appearance at the 2022 Wireless Festival on Saturday, J. Cole brought out BIA for a surprise performance of their hit collaboration. BIA expressed her love for the city afterwards on social media.

“London” dropped on April 8th of this year. The track peaked at 62 on the Billboard Hot 100, but reached as high as 20 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

The history of BIA

BIA released her first project, Nice Girls Finish Last: Cuidado in 2018 while signed with RCA. In 2019, she split from the label due to not being able to release her music. Later that year, she collabed with Russ on “Best On Earth,” which became popular on social media. The song was eventually certified Platinum by the RIAA, peaking at 46 on the Hot 100.

BIA signed to Epic Records in 2020, dropping her second EP For Certain in December. The project contained the hot track “Whole Lotta Money,” which ended up being remixed by Nicki Minaj. “Whole Lotta Money” peaked at no. 6 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart while landing at 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also received a Platinum certification.
