Yasiin Bey AKA Mos Def Praises Kanye For His Pivotal Album ‘Graduation’

When Kanye West dropped Graduation, the world stopped.  He was in a battle with 50 Cent as they dropped their albums on the same day.  I remember it like it was yesterday.  Back then, superstars like 50 Cent and Ye, didn’t drop on the same day.  Maybe the same year, but not around the same time.  On September 11, 2007, 50 Cent released his fifth album, Curtis while Kanye dropped his third album, Graduation.  Yasiin Bey, aka Mos Def recalled that day and felt it was a special moment for not only Kanye, but hip hop itself.

Drink Champs

Yasiin sat down with N.O.R.E. for his Drink Champs podcast recently to describe that moment.  He feels that people should appreciate Kanye more because he kept the music industry alive.  He outsold 50 Cent by hundreds of thousands and his album was of better quality.  Graduation sold almost one million records in one week!  Mos Def continued to say that the numbers from Graduation helped record companies to start streaming music.  And for a black man in Hip Hop to do this was crazy at the time!  The album not only changed the music industry, but it changed Hip Hop as well.  Kanye’s creativity and willing to experiment beyond the typical hip-hop format pushed the genre in another direction.  Hip Hop changed when Kanye stepped in, which made the way for rappers like Chance The Rapper, Kid Cudi, Lupe Fiasco, and Drake.

Curtis vs. Graduation

Yasiin found himself on Graduation twice.  He was featured on “Good Night” as well as “Drunk and Hot Girls”.  He likes 50 Cent and was a fan of Get Rich Or Die Tryin, but he knew Graduation was the better project.  Yasiin went to the Kanye’s listening party for the album.   He recalled that it was more of a production as it was in a movie theater.  Kanye matched the songs with programs and animations to Bey’s surprise.  He left the theater knowing 50 had no chance to compete with Ye.  Graduation was the number one record in the world when it came out while Curtis was number two, selling 690,000 units in the first week.

Kanye West’s ‘Yeezy Day’ Complaint; Adidas Allegedly Copied Yeezy Slides

Taking someone else’s creation and making decisions without consulting them is not recommended. But unfortunately, it is a practice that several individuals have used for a very long time. Kanye West, the founder of Yeezy, seems pretty dissatisfied with Adidas. Adidas celebrates Yeezy Day on Aug 2 of every year, in which the company re-releases some of Ye’s older Yeezy sneakers and slide designs.

The Founder Of Yeezy Sends ‘Complex’ A Direct Message Expressing His Disappointment With Adidas

This year, Aug 2, marked its third year since Adidas launched Yeezy Day in 2019. The “City of Gods” rapper sent a direct message to Complex’s Instagram account revealing that he is unhappy with Adidas for creating Yeezy Day without his consent.

Kanye also instructed the brand to continue manufacturing Yeezy slides to meet his demands. In response, he claims that GM deceived him and told him its production capacity was insufficient to produce the slides. However, it did have the means to create similar slides under the Adidas brand.

That’s not all, though! There’s more! West also addressed more issues with Adidas that have been allegedly perpetrated without his permission. In addition to picking out the colors, names, and style approach of Yeezy, they also hired employees who worked under him while stealing Yeezy’s styles and materials.

There was never a time when he hesitated to express his concerns, regardless of how others perceived them. Indeed, Kanye West is blessed to have teamed up with Adidas since his sneakers have dominated the market due to their partnership. However, the consideration that goes into making a decision plays a highly significant role, especially if that decision involves other people. Ye has earned a reputation for speaking his mind out loud.

Adidas Allegedly Copied From Yeezy Slides

The founder of Yeezy has signed a new deal with Adidas that runs through 2026. However, who’s to say how things will pan out between them from here on out? Aside from that, this is not the first time he has had a problem with the brand. In a since-deleted Instagram post in June, Kanye criticized Adidas for developing their own slides, called the Adilette 22 Slides, which he claims are knockoffs of the Yeezy slides.

To vent his frustrations, West called out Adidas CEO Kasper Rorsted directly.

“To Kasper, I’m not standing for this blatant copying no more,” he wrote. “This is for everyone who wants to express themselves but feel they can’t cause they’ll lose their contract or be called crazy…These shoes represent the disrespect that people in power have to the talent.”

Adidas And Yeezy Have Generated A Large Amount Of Revenue Since Joining Forces

Before partnering with Ye, Adidas had a successful shoe line of its own. However, since they joined forces, the brand has seen a lot of improvement in terms of its sales. According to the “Heartless” rapper, “Yeezy is 68% of adidas online sales.” The partnership between Ye and the German brand has benefited both parties. Their partnership should be maintained in the interest of both parties to avoid causing damage to it.

Hopefully, the founder of Yeezy doesn’t have any further issues with Adidas in the future. Investing in the business industry can seem like a bit of a risky venture sometimes, and you’ll never know who exactly has your best interests in mind.

Kanye West Buys New Maybach Truck For A$AP Bari After Crash

Kanye West came through for A$AP Bari with a new Maybach truck after the designer was involved in a collision. The A$AP Mob member and co-founder of the clothing brand VLONE posted a video of the new car on Instagram, thanking Kanye for the generous gift.

“Yo, this n***a Ye bought me a new f****ng Maybach, yo!”, he announced. “If you know me, you know I crashed my Maybach two days ago, bro! This n***a bought me a new Maybach truck, bruh. What the f**k is going on right now…I’m ’bout to cry, bro.”

Screenshots of DMs from Kanye West were also posted by A$AP Bari, along with photos of the old Maybach. The pictures show the front end of the car mangled after a nasty collision.

A$AP Bari expressed his admiration for Kanye in another Instagram story. “I’ve been feeling very down lately. Say wtf you want about Ye he’s always been there for me.”

Kanye West’s history with A$AP Bari

Kanye West has been a loyal friend to A$AP Bari despite controversy. After the designer was arrested in 2018 on sexual assault charges, Ye expressed his support for Bari on Twitter. However, Bari would plead guilty to the charges.

“Bari challenged me when no one else did and when he got in trouble I was scared to say he was my friend just like I did with [XXXTentacion] and that was some pu**y sh*t on my part,” the rapper wrote. “I let the perception and the robots control me. That’s the true sunken place.”

However, Ye’s association with the designer didn’t sit well with his inner circle. According to a 2019 report from The Blast, the Chicago rapper’s advisors suggested that he distance himself from Bari, both personally and professionally, amidst the allegations.

Rolling Loud Releases Statement Following Kid Cudi’s Performance

Rolling Loud officially came out with a statement regarding the unfortunate incident that transpired during Kid Cudi’s performance. Spectators unveiled that the “Day N Nite” was hit with several water bottles during his set. After performing “REVOFEV,” one of them hit his face. Agitated by this cruel action, Cudi said: 

“Yo, I will walk off this stage if you all throw one more f—ing thing up here. I will leave. I will leave right now…Throw one more f—ing thing on this stage, and I’ll walk off. I’m not playing. You will ruin it for everybody. I’ll leave. Don’t f–k with me.”

Shortly after, someone decided to test the rapper’s patience. That’s when he decided to storm off. 

After the music festival’s team saw this casualty occur, they said: 

“Rolling Loud is a family. Our fans, the artists, and everyone involved need to look out for each other. Share the love and be respectful to everyone. We love you, Cudi. Please take care of each other, and let’s have an amazing day 2!” 

Yet die-hard Kid Cudi fans weren’t satisfied with this response. 

One user on Twitter wrote, “Cudi didn’t deserve that,” while another said, “If you loved cudi, you wouldn’t have set him up like that.” 

Last week it was reported that Kid Cudi would replace Kanye West as a headliner at Rolling Loud Miami. 

The two musicians were the best of friends until earlier this year. After Pete Davidson, one of Cudi’s close friends, began dating Kim Kardashian, West’s ex-wife, the two exchanged some heated words. According to the DONDA rapper, Cudi’s friendship with Davidson is the ultimate betrayal. But, instead of telling him upfront, Ye went online to air their beef. After the news came out, Kid Cudi addressed Kanye West through his Twitter account. 

“Everyone knows I’ve been the best thing about ur albums since I met you,” he wrote. “Ima pray for you, brother. We talked weeks ago about this. You are whack for flipping the script and posting this lie just for a look on the internet. You ain’t no friend. BYE.”

On Friday of the 2022 Rolling Loud Festival, Kid Cudi left the Rolling Loud stage during his set. The artist was infuriated at fans throwing objects on stage at him. He repeatedly voiced his feelings toward their behavior and warned them about leaving if it continued.

Cudi’s Last Minute Appearance

Kid Cudi appeared at the Rolling Loud festival as a fill-in for Ye (Kanye West) after Ye told festival promoters and the media that he was no longer attending. Cudi came regardless of the last-minute opportunity to perform there. Rolling Loud made it clear that they admired having him. However, the fans of the festival disagreed. Fans on Twitter taunted him and made negative remarks about wanting Ye to be there instead of him.

Cudi responded to the fans in the audience who were also posting on Twitter about his performance, saying:

“I will f**king leave … If I get hit with one more f**king thing — if I see one more f**king thing on this f**king stage, I’m leaving!”

The fans showed no remorse for his feelings before, during, and after Cudi left. People were still throwing things at him as he walked off stage.

Surprise Appearance From Ye

Donda Rapper and Fashion Designer Ye made a surprising yet deceitful appearance at Rolling Loud moments after Cudi’s set. He came out to perform on stage with Lil Durk immediately after Durk’s performance. Fans got excited about his unexpected arrival after he canceled on short notice. Fans and the Media suspected that his actions amidst Cudi’s set were in response to their feud with Ye. The latter is not a fan of Cudi’s friendship with his ex-wife’s current boyfriend, Pete Davidson. Ye made significant headlines and album sales with this feud and performance last night.

For some, the Kim Kardashian and Ye divorce might’ve been a surprise, but we can exclude Amber Rose from that group. According to the model-turned-rapper, she is not at all surprised their marriage ended on a sour note. In an interview with Raquel Harper, Rose said she never felt any ill will toward the couple. In fact, she says she focused on her happy marriage at the time to rapper Wiz Khalifa. Even after it ended, Ye’s ex said she harbored no bitterness toward Kim-Ye’s union.

“I have my own—I don’t want to say ‘feelings’ for him because that sounds like it’s a positive thing for Kanye — I have my own issues and feelings, how I feel about how our relationship was.”

This is a change of pace since Amber Rose and Ye’s last public feud In 2015-16. after the model criticized Tyga for dating 17-year-old Kylie Jenner, Kylie’s big sis, Khloé, stepped in. Then Ye added fuel when he insulted Amber in an interview. At the time, Amber shot back, claiming she wouldn’t air her ex’s business, then referring to Kim’s family as the “Kartrashians.” She has since expressed regret for the insult delivered via Twitter.

With Or Without Ye

Following the highly public split, Ye dated several people, including “Uncut Gems” actress and walking meme Julia Fox and model Irina Shayk. However, neither of these relationships lasted. Following the one-sided public beef between himself and various former friends, Ye appears to still be in love with Kim.

Kim Kardashian is doing just fine on the opposite end of the split. Now the socialite is dating comedian Pete Davidson, who also has a rather exciting dating life. Amber Rose has also seen her own success without the Chicago rapper. Regardless of Ye’s feelings for his ex, Amber Rose and Kim Kardashian both agree on something. Kim seems happy with Pete.

Lupe Fiasco 15 Years In And Still Working

Grammy award-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco has been around for a while.  He won a Grammy for his hit “Daydreamin “with Jill Scott in 2006.  The Chicagoan is now 40 years old as he first came on the scene in the early 2000s with stamp of approvals from Jay-Z and Ye.  His first two albums were met with high praise, “Food & Liquor” and “The Cool”.  He dropped “Lasers” in 2011 and that topped the Billboard charts that year.  But around that time, Lupe had a few obstacles to deal with.

He wasn’t seeing eye to eye with his label, Atlantic Records.  He also made comments about former President Barack Obama as he claimed President Obama was the “biggest terrorist”.  Both instances did not work out in Lupe’s favor as his name became tarnished around the industry.   Although, he continued to drop music eventually going independent.

Drill Music in Zion

Fast forward to 2022 and Lupe has found himself teaching rap at the prominent Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  The course starts this fall and will involve computing and activism as well.  Before he heads to class, he decided to drop us off an album.  “Drill Music in Zion” was released a few weeks ago and he created the project in only 3 days!  It is being received well, while Lupe continues to work day in and day out.

He spends most of the days dealing with the boring part of rap such as answering emails, phone calls, and following agendas.  This is the business part that he refers to this as scams and scandals.  Originally, Lupe wasn’t going to drop an album, but his label co-owner asked him to.  The album title came to Lupe in a freestyle, and he instantly knew that was going to be the title.  In an interview with XXL, Lupe explained that the album is not about Drill music or Chicago.

“It’s not so much necessarily about Chicago. It’s just the title and it’s how does that title guide certain things?”, said Lupe.

Reality of Drill Music

One thing about Drill music though, Lupe wished it was just entertainment.  The rappers are telling the truth through the Drill music and people all over the world are singing and dancing to it.  He references Pop Smoke, for example.  He was killed as being a part of that type of music and Lupe is not entertained by that.  It’s 2022 and Lupe has been in the game for 15 years now, he feels he doesn’t have a role in hip-hop anymore.  Every now and then, he just wants to pop up and deliver his lyricism to the current generation.

Kid Cudi & Kanye West Go Platinum With ‘Moon’ Despite Recent Beef

Kanye & Kid Cudi‘s song “Moon”, one of the standouts from Kanye West’s last official studio album Donda, could be one of the last collaborations between the two. Fortunately, the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) announced yesterday (July 11th) that the song has now reached platinum certification status. Neither Ye nor Cudi are new to creating platinum records, so this probably means the most to the young Don Toliver who is also on Moon. While the two still have no plans of ever making music again according to Cudi, this should be a sign for them to mend their bond.

 

The Broken Bond Between Kanye & Cudi

Back in April, Kid Cudi made the status of his partnership with Kanye very clear to fans. The two Hip-Hop legends appeared together on the same song titled “Rock N Roll” from Pusha T’s latest album. Before that song was released, Cudi went on Twitter to say, “I am not cool w that man. He’s not my friend and I only cleared the song for Pusha cuz thats my guy.” Furthermore, he explained that the song was recorded a year ago while the friendship was still solid. He ended off with this statement, “This is the last song u will hear me on w Kanye.” Take a look at the full tweet below:

 

Kid Cudi’s Latest Music Ventures

This past Friday, July 8th, Cudi released The Boy Who Flew to the Moon which features his best work over the years. Additionally, fans will be treated to the re-release of his classic debut mixtape A Kid Named Cudi on July 15th. The revival of his career is truly marvelous to watch take shape. Kanye West Retail Store, YZYSPLY, Coming Soon…Or At Least He Hopes So!

Yeezy does it again! The entrepreneur who has conquered the music, shoe, and apparel industries has now set his sights on a Kanye West retail store. He recently filed a trademark for the YZYSPLY store and is laying the groundwork to get it up and running.

What To Expect From The New Kanye West Retail Store

Ye and his team have set the foundation for a retail store, online ordering services, and online store services. The name is inspired by a website that fans are already acquainted with. “Yezzy Supply” is a site that the artist uses to sell limited-release items. But the new trademark seems to be setting the stage for something bigger. Including an actual store.

The filing includes every category of clothing you can imagine. From undergarments to accessories. As well as beachwear and infant wear. With a lot of creative room to make changes and add new items. This is a natural progression since his 2020 deal with GAP. Their first drop made up of mostly black items, including his full face mask was released last year. And it was announced that YZY GAP has a partnership with Balenciaga as well.

Everything seems to be coming full circle for Ye. Because in a 2015 interview with Vanity Fair he spoke about opening his own store. And how it would be accomplishing a lifelong dream to open the YZYSPLY store. “So even though we do really amazing sales online, my dream is just to have my own store. And to have multiples of it.”

All fans can do now is simply wait for more on the Kanye West retail store. He has not made any comments on the situation just yet. But we are sure he is going to wait and make an announcement in true Ye fashion. Where do you think the first location will be?

Ye May Build His Own Retail Stores Under “YZYSPLY” Name

Kanye West has another brilliant idea!  He reportedly filed a trademark for “YZYSPLY.”  At first, Ye used “Yeezy Supply” on his website when releasing new and limited quantity clothes. Now, “YZYSPLY” may be stamped under new garments the rapper plans to create such as tennis wear, footwear, and underwear. It looks like Ye is planning to open his own retail stores with this new brand as well. He just dropped his release with GAP which includes his infamous full face black mask. He also signed a 10-year deal with GAP to produce Yeezy Supply clothing.  I’m guessing “YZYSPLY” stores will only have Yeezy’s items and won’t be combined with the GAP line.

Donda Foam Vehicle

Kanye is always busy creating.  Just recently, he has announced that he plans on making the Donda Foam Vehicle.  Yes, a car made of foam!  As you can see, Kanye is not afraid to try anything. He and , shoe architect, Steven Smith, are working on this project. Smith has worked with Kanye for years as they collaborated on the Yeezy Adidas line.  Ye has named Smith head designer for Donda Industrial Design. He has just added Donda Industrial Design under the Donda brand.  As of right now, the foam vehicle looks like an ATV with large wheels and tiny windows.  Ye clearly has a thing for foam as his latest shoe release is made up of foam as well. Apparently, since he is good friends with Elon Musk, he is going to reach out to the tycoon to make his vision come to life.

Ye vs David Casavant Archive

While Ye is busy creating, he’s still dealing with a bit of controversy. The David Casavant Archive is suing him for not paying fees or returning rare items. Kanye allegedly owes them hundreds of thousands of dollars. The David Casavant Archive claims Ye stopped paying for over a dozen items since 2020. According to the lawyers of David Casavant Archive, Ye would lose the clothes they rented to him, and they would send him the replacement fee. They add that all this is in writing and Ye is aware of this.  With unpaid fees and garments that need to be replaced, Ye is looking at a bill of over $400,000.
