Detroit Teacher Had To Resign Because Of Her Rap Career

Detroit rapper Drippin Honey, also known as former history teacher Domonique Brown, had to quit her school job because her Hip Hop career allegedly “was a bad influence on the kids,” according to a parent’s complaint.

Drippin Honey quit her Taylor Preparatory High School job in February, only several months after starting in August. By the middle of March, the artist’s story began circulating in the media. At the time, the artist commented on the situation online and on TV.

“Recently, I was forced to leave my position due to me being a Rapper,” Drippin Honey wrote on X on March 17. “A single parent’s disapproval led to my dismissal.”

“Nobody even knew I was a rapper until the parent kept continuously complaining,” Drippin Honey also told WDBJ7. “The first meeting that I had with the principal and the dean, they had told me that the parent…felt as if she didn’t like my rap career and that I was a bad influence on the kids because I rap.”

Drippin Honey Gets Support

After the complaints from the anonymous parent, Brown had to choose between her school job and her rap career. “I couldn’t see myself giving up my other passion just because somebody didn’t like it, and they say erase all your content,” Dripping Honey explained. “That was the ultimatum. Erase all your content. I was like, ‘Respectfully, I can’t do that.'”

Nevertheless, many people in Taylor Preparatory High School supported Drippin Honey after she faced a choice between jobs. The former educator was elected teacher of the month in December.

Moreover, Drippin Honey’s students helped her record the “Drippin 101” music video during the last days of her schoolwork.

Some parents also provided support for the artist. “We long for teachers who support our children and who inspire them, and [Brown] was one of those teachers,” one of the parents stated. “So really disappointed.”

Another parent explained that, for her, “It doesn’t matter what you do outside of the education structure. Like, once you leave that particular building, you go on with life.”

The School’s Response

The school itself also provided comments

“Ms. Brown resigned from her position at Taylor Prep on Jan. 24. She was not fired,” a part of the school’s statement claims. “Administration informed her on several occasions she was violating the teacher code of conduct. Students and their parents reached out to us voicing concerns over Ms. Brown’s promotion of her social media accounts in the classroom.”

Trick Trick Responds to an Egregious Crime in The Community

March 27 Detroit Rapper Trick Trick (Christian Mathis) went on record stating he will use his money to bring justice. When it comes to protecting and serving and righting egregious wrongs, he’s not one to play with.

The Attack

Recently, a dastardly attack made on the persons of an elderly woman made the headlines. And It wasn’t merely any attack. Not only did a perpetrator break into the home of an 80-year-old woman, but sexually assaulted her. WCRZ reported,

“The woman told the offender she had no money and attempted to push him out the door. However, the attacker pulled the victim outside and sexually assaulted her outside the home.”

At the time, the perpetrator was still at large.

Trick Trick’s Response

Undoubtedly, such crime warrants outrage regardless of attachment. But this one, Trick Trick, feels some way about. And he has made the public aware of why he feels as he does. Mathis acknowledged the linking factor which led him to vocalize his dissent and support for quick and swift action. According to the artist, he has a grandmother who is 90 years of age. So his ability to relate on that level made the attack on the 80-year-old woman feel personal. And he wants to help in whatever way he can. According to WCRZ, upon hearing the news, this was the rapper’s response,

“If I have to offer $10,000. I want his a**. My grandma [is] 90 years old. … when I saw this, I said get up, suit up; it is time to go.”

Going the Extra Mile

He not only agreed to provide a monetary reward for whoever had information, but that he could make himself available to anyone who knew something; in the words of Mathis,

“You can direct message me at tricktrickgs2. Hit my DM, and I’ll pull up and come see you myself.”

Who is Trick Trick

Trick Trick is the founder of the legendary hip-hop group the Goon Sqwad. Trick Trick, formally known as Mathis, is a self-taught musician. He started learning various instruments and displaying his talents in the church. Mathis later turned his energies toward the music industry, specifically in hip-hop. Eminem is credited as a stabilizing force in the life of Mathis, pointing him toward hip-hop. According to FX Networks,

“Eminem urged Mathis to leave the streets and continue with his music. He offered Mathis the opportunity to travel with the Anger Management Tour 3 to promote their hit single “Welcome 2 Detroit.”

Some are Made for More

Mathis later expanded his talents beyond that of a performing artist. Mathis went on to work in the film and tv industry in various capacities. And he expanded his influence in music to that of an owner and entrepreneur. And to his credit, he has worked with some of hip-hop’s elite. But ultimately, he stepped up to become a civic leader. And he has devoted his time to pouring back into the youth through the Christian Anthony Foundation, as noted by FX Networks.

Conclusion

Trick Trick serves as an exemplar. He epitomizes the adage, “put your money where your mouth is.” While it may seem a small thing to some, it is not. This small act demonstrates he has a heart for people. Beyond that, he cares deeply for the welfare of his community, which is commendable. Because as Martin Luther King once pronounced, “A threat to justice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” This one small act, a demonstration of willingness to do what is necessary to bring about justice, says a great deal about his character. And here’s to hoping someone will heed the call. And that justice will reign down accordingly.

All Three Missing Detroit Rappers Found Dead Inside Apartment

This unusual case of three missing rappers’ murders in Detroit, Michigan, caught the nation by storm. The mystery is still unfolding.

After two weeks of no answers, a set of missing Detroit artists have been found dead in Highland Park Apartments. Armani Kelly, Dante Wicker, and Montaya Givens were planning to perform on Jan 21 at East Detroit club Lounge 31. However, the event was unexpectedly canceled due to technical equipment issues, according to Michigan police.

Canceled Concert Turned Tragic

Detroit News reports the authorities tracked the missing rappers down using their cellular data. Apparently, the abandoned apartment building packed old construction materials where someone buried the victims. Someone also shot all three men prior.

Armani Kelly had communicated with his girlfriend the night of the canceled event, but texts and calls ceased around 7:30 pm.

In late January, Michigan police apprehended a 15-year-old boy after law enforcement caught him driving Kelly’s Chevrolet Equinox without a license. According to the unnamed boy, a man in the area had demanded he takes the car from Schoolcraft Rd.

After tracking down the older man, police discovered he already had an outstanding warrant for fraud. The individual went into custody for questioning on Jan 30. However, it’s unclear whether the arrest and the recent shootings link.

“All I want is someone to tell me where he’s at so we can go home, and I can lay him to rest,” Kelly’s mother said in an interview. “Deep in my gut and in my soul and in my heart, he’s gone.” Only hours later, somebody found Kelly along with Wicker and Givens.

On Feb 2, police began their forensic investigation to determine what happened that night. Unfortunately, the investigation may take longer than usual due to a severe rat infestation.

For now, many details surrounding the murders remain a mystery. With all three men planning to perform in the same venue on the same night, it’s certainly an eerie crime.

Eminem brings Mom’s Spaghetti to New York

Eminem is bringing his Detroit-based pop-up restaurant concept, Mom’s Spaghetti, to New York. It is part of the 20th-anniversary celebrations of the movie “8 Mile”. In addition to the spaghetti, the pop-up will also feature various merchandise for purchase.

8 Mile

“8 Mile” is a movie from 2002. It is major because it was Eminem’s film debut and was semi-autobiographical. The movie is also the origin of the name chosen for the pop-up restaurant. In the movie Eminem plays a character that lived at home with his mother, and was subject to her cooking. One of Eminem’s most popular singles, “Lose Yourself”, was made for the movie and has the term “mom’s spaghetti” as a slant rhyme to “arms are heavy”. This line acknowledges the youth of the character, who would nervously throw up his moms cooking before performing on stage.

According to Know Your Meme, the lyric became a meme on 4chan in 2012 as a representation of social awkwardness or humiliation by quoting the song and ending it with “Mom’s spaghetti”. The lyric fits because the song is about embarrassment, and the social awkwardness some may feel if they’re put on the spot in public. The meme has since evolved into pocket spaghetti stories, where someone finds themselves finds themselves having to speak in public, and instead repeats Eminem’s lyrics about moms spaghetti, complete with pulling actual spaghetti out of their pocket before fleeing.

From a Lyric to a Business

In 2017, Eminem took the lyric back by turning it into a popup. After that turned successful, he opened a permanent restaurant in Detroit in 2021. He is now expanding this new chain into New York. The restaurant is not the only thing that Eminem is opening in New York, either.

There is also an adjacent upstairs store opening with the restaurant. The store is called “The Trailer” and will be selling merch from Eminem and his new pasta chain.

Megan Thee Stallion and Big Sean Facing Lawsuits For “Go Crazy” Copyright Infringement

Back in 2020, Megan Thee Stallion dropped “Go Crazy” featuring Big Sean and 2 Chainz off her Good News album. Recently, two Detroit artists came forward to say the rappers stole their record to create the song.

According to Hot New Hip-Hop, Big Sean and 2 Chainz were featured in Meg’s song “Go Crazy.” The track was reportedly stolen and may result in a heavy lawsuit. Duawn Payne whose stage name is Go Hard Major, and Harrell James who goes by H Matic, claim the single was copied off one of their earlier songs. The source reports that Megan and Sean were both sued along with 1501 Certified Entertainment, and Universal Music. Payne and James accused the song makers of stealing their song “Krazy.” Reports claim the track was made in 2012 and was released on ReverbNation.

The pair stated at the time they used to perform in their city and give out CDs of their music. Big Sean also happens to be from Detroit causing the two to believe he may have stumbled across their music. The lawsuit reportedly reads,

“The Copyrighted Work is an original work of authorship and is particularly unique as a result of its catchy chorus—or hook—the centerpiece of the Copyrighted Work.”

“The sale of thousands of physical copies of CDs featuring the Copyrighted Work on the streets of West Detroit and the parking lots of hip hop clubs in West Detroit frequented by [Big Sean] provide further access of the Copyrighted Work to Defendants. Upon release, the Infringing Work sold reportedly 100,500 units for the first week of its release. Since the debut, the Infringing Work has reportedly gone platinum, meaning more than one million copies have been sold.”

Although it is unclear what Payne and James are seeking in damages from this case, the two reportedly sent both Megan and Sean cease and desist letters, however, there was no response.

42 Dugg Arrested By the Feds in Detroit Airport

‘We Paid’ rapper 42 Dugg has run into some serious legal trouble in the midst of returning to his hometown.

42 Dugg Forced to Face the Music

42 Dugg was reportedly arrested in Detroit, Michigan, Thursday afternoon (May 5). Federal agents apprehended the Midwest artist swiftly after he de-boarded a flight from Memphis, Tennessee. According to The Detroit News, Dugg was jailed for failing to surrender to a six-month prison sentence on Apr 12.

This is yet another arrest for the 4PF rapper, who has an extensive rap sheet.

It scales back to 2010 when 42 Dugg was convicted of carjacking and felony firearm possession. Since then, he’s had a hard time keeping himself out of trouble. In March 2020, he was again caught possessing a firearm as a felon. He was taken into custody just five months later for evading the police.

Despite all these charges, the ‘Maybach’ rapper narrowly avoided jail time last May. Dugg’s lawyers managed to grab a plea deal for the 10-year sentence felony gun charge. However, the celebration was short-lived. The judge quickly revoked 42 Dugg’s probation and instead sentenced him to six months in jail with two years of supervised release.

Midwest rappers vs. 6ix9ine continues

This comes at an already tumultuous time for 42 Dugg. The Detroit rapper recently blasted sixnine for popping up on Lil Durk’s viral doppelgänger. He subsequently challenged the New York artist to a boxing match, but only if they each earn 500,000.

“I hate it when bitch ass n-ggas do hoe shit to good people,” Dugg said in defense of Perkio. “rat ass n-ggas involving white boys in street shit n-ggas be lames and hoes n-ggas could’ve pulled up on so many other n-ggas they a pull up on a kid with nothing to do wit nothing. Y’all can never expect Ah non street person to understand the streets these n-ggas blowing down on kids tryna ruin kids life knowing Ah real N-gga Ah spit on you bitch n-ggas.”

6ix9ine, of course, didn’t hesitate to respond. “42 Dugg talking about, ‘Yo, if n-ggas see n-ggas ah ah, like’ — yo, 42 Dugg, I’ll smack the shit out you. I will smack fire out you, n-gga. That’s word to my life. I’m on parole, but just me and you, bro? And you say, ‘Yo, let’s lock in a room and get it’? I will smack fire out you with your consent. Stop playing with me, n-gga.”

42 Dugg hasn’t made any further comment at this time. However, with both 6ix9ine and 12 possible years in prison looming over his head, this Michigan mc has a long 2022 ahead of him.

“313 day is important to me because it shows the growth in the Detroit music scene. We used to pay artists to let us open up for them and our sound wasn’t accepted by the masses. Now we’re doing our own concerts and we have different fan bases traveling from all over the world to see us.”

HaHa Davis and Justin Floyd will be hosting the show. Other artists set to perform are Babyface Ray, Jugg Harden, Peezy, Skilla Baby, and Front Paije. A man of many talents

Indeed Mr. Mathers is a man of many talents. Eminem collaborates with NBA. You can catch him in Black Mafia Family episode 7 as White Boy Rick, which aired in November. While it has been exciting to see him back on screen, fans are still asking one question. You do remember you also rap, right? In retrospect, where is the music, Eminem?

White Boy Rick on Eminem’s Portrayal of Him: “An Honor!”

No matter your life story, trials and tribulations, you know you’re really something when Eminem portrays you in a TV show. Indeed, for Richard Wershe Jr., it must be a good day. The former FBI informant, drug-and-weapons runner, and possible political insider has a different name in the annals of history: White Boy Rick.

Eminem’s portrayal of White Boy Rick will feature prominently of the next episode of 50 Cent’s Black Mafia Family (BMF). Actually, the first look is already out. Or rather, this past weekend, it leaked, giving viewers a glimpse of Eminem as White Boy Rick. Following the leak, VladTV reached out to Wershe Jr. for a comment. The man himself was all positivity, writing:

“Eminem is awesome! And it was an honor! Detroit!!!”

50 Cent announced back in August that Eminem would be included in BMF as White Boy Rick. 50 Cent posted to Twitter saying that he was “bringing the big dogs out”, including couldn’t do a Detroit based show “without incorporating the legend @eminem.”

In August, Wershe Jr. gave his blessing to 50 Cent, Eminem and BMF in a video by TMZ.

“Of course, it’s Eminem so that’s an honor to have him portray me in a series. He was actually one of the first people that was looking at doing the movie about me so it’s pretty cool that later down the line, he gets to take on this role.” Wershe Jr. added, “I’m a fan, you know. It’s an honor to have him do it. He’s a Detroit legend…so from one Detroiter to another, just, you know, kill it!”

The episode, entitled “All in The Family”, will air this Sunday (November 14) on STARZ.

Detroit’s BMF and White Boy Rick

BMF follows the history of the Black Mafia Family, an organization founded on the drug trade and money laundering. At the helm were the brothers Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenroy and Terry “Southwest T” Flenroy, kingpins of southwest Detroit in the 1980s.

White Boy Rick himself became an FBI informant in 1984, at the age of 14. In 1987, age 17, the FBI effectively abandoned him when he was arrested for possession of 8 kilograms of cocaine. White Boy Rick spent 27 years is prison, only being released in June 2020. The extraordinary length of the sentence for a nonviolent drug crime came by way of the notorious, now nonexistent 650 Lifer Law. However, some say it may also be linked to the political turmoil Wershe Jr. caused to the powerful figures of Detroit.

Benny the Butchers Postpones Show Due to non-COVID Hospitalization

Earlier yesterday morning Benny the Butcher entered the hospital for a non-COVID-related illness. Reportedly, the incident is related to complications resulting from asthma. It is unknown whether the rapper had a serious attack or whether there was some other complication. Regardless, as a direct result of this hospitalization, his show scheduled for yesterday evening at St. Andrews Hall in Detroit is postponed indefinitely.

What Happened to Benny the Butcher?

At the time of writing, it is unknown what actually happened to Benny or how serious his condition is. We do know some things, however. Benny’s spokesperson states that the incident is asthma-related and has no connection to COVID. Furthermore, Mike Powers has confirmed that Benny does occasionally use an inhaler.

Although the rapper had just holla’d at his homie the day before, something must have taken an unfortunate turn.  Benny had to postpone a show which was scheduled for last night. The show’s new date has yet determined.

According to Benny’s Instagram, ticket holders will have nothing to fear and will still be able to see the show once Benny has recovered.

Praying for a Speeding Recovery

In the U.S., 10 people die from asthma-related incidents every day. While asthma can be deadly, it is usually survivable. That is if the patient receives proper treatment early enough. Thankfully, those around Benny are taking good care of him. Despite this, it could take between 1-3 weeks before Benny is feeling back to normal.

In the interim, Benny has received an enormous outpouring of love and support from fans on Instagram and Twitter.
