Alleged Victim of R. Kelly Proclaims Engagement to the Artist

Today R. Kelly (Robert Kelly) is under the spotlight because of an interesting development. Reportedly Kelly is engaged to one of the alleged victims for which he was tried and sentenced, Joycelyn Savage.

July 11tth news broke of Kelly’s engagement. Several outlets are reporting access to legal documents of Jocelyn Savage’s admission of her engagement to Robert Kelly. Interestingly Savage is also one of Kelly’s supposed victims raising several questions. When did this engagement happen, and why is it coming to light now?

When Did the Engagement with Robert Kelly Occur?

There is no information on when Savage’s and Kelly’s engagement occurred. The only sure thing is the judge knew of this before sentencing. According to Entertainment, Savage provided this information to the judge in a letter. In the letter, she not only gushes about Kelly but denounces her victimhood and makes a request for leniency. In Savage’s words,

“[Kelly]is not the monster that the government has described him to be.”

Why are Savages Claims Now Coming to Light?

This is the most mind-boggling part of this situation. During the trial, there was no mention of this information. It seems this would have been pertinent information during the trial. Savage, however, chose to write a letter to the judge right before Kelly’s sentencing. According to Entertainment, the letter read, 

“My name is Joycelyn Savage, and I’m Robert Kelly’s fiancé[e]. And I’m writing this letter in support of Robert in advance of his sentencing.”.

Not only is the timing questionable, but the lack of verifiability. This is even more speculative, given Savage defended Kelly in 2019. So why not mention her engagement during the trial. Was it forbidden?

Furthermore, Savage’s family claims to know nothing. Not only have they not heard about her claims until now they stand in doubt about the validity. So, there is a great deal of speculation surrounding the intent of the proclamation.

The Robert Kelly Plot Thickens

There is so much to digest here, and it certainly raises eyebrows. This letter is indeed a strike at her credibility, and it brings into question the integrity of the other witnesses. It also makes one wonder if there was a bigger agenda in play. It is an undeniable part of Savage’s claim she’s not the victim the government portrayed her to be. Reportedly she goes on to reiterate forced victimhood once more further in the letter. As per the document,

“it breaks my heart that the government has created a narrative that I’m a victim.”

 What Is Known

As of now, the parents are still waiting to hear from their daughter. Savage remains disconnected and reportedly claims to have been so since getting involved with Kelly. So, all we have is a letter and a lot of speculation. We know it had zero impact on getting Kelly’s 30-year sentence reduced. It would be interesting to see what Kelly has to say on the issue. It appears outlets reached out but were met with a rather scathing response from Kelly’s legal team.

Young Thug’s Nephew Deonta Grier Arrested for Murder

On July 6th Young Thug’s nephew, Deonta Grier, took the life of Destiny Fitzpatrick, his girlfriend. And now the world is awaiting a response from Young Thug.

Grisly Finding

According to TMZ, police arrived at the scene to find Grier in tears. However, Destiny Fitzpatrick was no longer alive. Fitzpatrick lay dead in a pool of her blood from an alleged gunshot to the face. According to the source, when police first questioned Grier, he informed police of his identity. He told authorities he was a nephew of Young Thug. And the information has since been confirmed.

The Account of Young Thug’s Nephew

People noted Grier initially gave a conflicting report. He at first claimed he had engaged in a struggle with masked men breaking into the property, thus leading to her death. However, neighbors alerted the police to other information. Reportedly, there was an alleged argument at the residence before the incident. And Grier later admitted to the shooting.

This event is indeed grim. Given the relational ties, many wonder what Young Thug has to say about the issue. However, Young Thug remains incarcerated. And according to reports, he and fellow artist Gunna have both been denied bond. In fact, Gunna’s recent plea was struck down. So, behind bars, they remain as both await trial for RICO charges, and the star is due in court on January 9th, 2023. However, attempts were made to get a comment from the artist regarding the news of his nephew’s arrest. Unfortunately, sources state he has yet to respond.

Tragedy Beyond Rationalization

The murder of Fitzpatrick is such a sad and tragic tale. And currently, outlets are not reporting details on the motive underlining the incident. Regardless, there is never any valid justification for such a violent act. Condolences go out to the family of Destiny Fitzpatrick.

Halle Bailey Wraps of Production of “The Color Purple”

Fans of Halle have been anticipating the upcoming adaptation of  “The Little Mermaid,” in which she stars Ariel. However, many may not know that Halle Bailey is also staring in the readaptation of Alice Walker’s “The Color Purple.” And according to reports, production is complete. 

Halle Exclaims “It’s A Wrap”

Today Halle went before the world with an enthralling announcement. She now has two major motion pictures under her belt in less than a year and a half. Halle Bailey’s words read thus,

“I’m so very grateful to have had this experience, My second major motion picture complete in the last year and a half.”

Completing two films in such a short period is an outstanding achievement. And Halle is not the only one bursting with pride and excitement.

Halley Bailey, the sister of the phenomenal songstress Chloe Bailey, has been on the grind. Both sisters have given the world a pinch of their talent as a pair. Respectfully, Beyonce knew what she was doing when she signed the indomitable pair.  And now both are giving the world something to savor in their individual lanes. 

Major Motion Pictures

The announcement that Halle was being considered for the role of Ariel in the adaptation of Walt Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” set the press ablaze. Despite the controversy, in 2019, Bailey snagged the role. Her fans were ecstatic about her first major motion picture. The representation Halle would bring in the deliverance of her role as Ariel alone was incredible.

However, Little Mermaid was not the only project keeping Baily hard at work. Halle was diligently working on another stellar project. Amazingly, Bailey had also landed the role as Nettie in the upcoming adaptive reprisal of 1985’s Blockbuster “The Color Purple,” originally starring Oprah Winfrey, Danny Glover, Adolph Caesar, Whoopi Goldberg, Margaret Avery, Rae Dawn Chong, and Laurence Fishburne.

Today Halle gleefully announced that the filming of the film is a wrap, and she did so with some of her favorite photos from the shoot. One of the photos included an exceptional still shot beside the legendary Oprah Winfrey (Sofia).

Amazingly Bailey gets to reprise the part of Celie’s sister Nettie made famous by Ghanian actress (Akosua Gyamama Busi). And she is joining a spectacular cast Danielle Brooks (Sofia), Taraji P. Henson (Shug Avery), H.E.R (Squeak), and Fantasia Barrino (as Celie),  made famous by Whoopi Goldberg. What is even more exciting, Quincy Jones is on board as producer along with Scott Sanders. 

A Proud Moment

Today Bailey is indeed not the only one who is beaming with pride. Oprah also gave Chloe flowers at the close of production as a show of pride and appreciation. Undoubtedly her sister Chloe who recently dropped a hot new single, “Surprise,” is ecstatic for her sister.

Congratulations from the FM Hip Hop Family to Halle on her accomplishments. We know this is only the beginning. And we can hardly wait to see her on the silver screen as Nettie in December of 2023.

Troubled Exchanges Between Press and LAPD Raises Stir

Friday protest in downtown LA turned painful for more than a few journalists and press members, raising widespread concerns.

Today more than a few journalists are speaking out about their experience with poor and illegal treatment from officers of law and order. And it brings to question what actions occur about the police’s consistent overreach or denial of legal protections.

LAPD Allegedly Assaults Press

Sadly, journalists and other press members are finding that despite measures to expand protections, there is little follow-through. This was on full display Friday evening. One journalist had a particularly alarming exchange with an officer that left her bruised and battered.

One Journalist’s Account

According to Tina-Desiree Berg, she was in the process of filming when she became a victim of an unwarranted assault. As the journalist reported to a source, she was on the sidewalk filming the arrest of an abortion rights protester in downtown Los Angeles on Friday night when a police officer hit her on the side of the head. Even more alarming is more than one officer struck the professional.

Issues Relevant to All Press

More disconcerting, Berg was not the only one to experience such behavior. It is reported that what Berg experienced was echoed by many journalists. According to MSN,

“Times reporters submitted proof of journalists being pushed, struck with batons, forced out of areas where they had a right to observe police activity, and blocked from entering other areas where police and protesters were clashing, and arrests were being made.

LAPD’s behavior with the press is a travesty on so many levels. But, primarily, it sets a dangerous precedent.

The Danger of Exchanges Like Friday’s

Fundamentally the First Amendment protects the rights of a free press, free speech, and peaceful assembly. Yet, the press has had a contentious history regarding those protections. And the issues which have arisen have led to widespread talks of change. And some of those talks led to purported action. However, Friday night’s exchanges prove so much more must be done. Words are not enough.

Knowing is Not Enough

Many Journalists who tried to document the events of the protest Friday were also aware of the expansion of protections. It is public knowledge, as recorded,

“Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law in part in response to former incidents expanding rights of journalists covering protests, and the LAPD introduced a new policy making it clear that journalists have a right to cover protests and enter areas that police have blocked off.”

So, there is no excuse for lapses in professionalism in upholding the law. 

What’s Ahead

Today several questions bear response. And clearly, there is a need for change and reformation. It is yet to be seen when or if that will happen, but it is long overdue. And this is only the beginning of a much larger issue. Respectfully FM Hip Hop’ will maintain the position of providing news coverage as it breaks.

Mock NFT’s Bizarre Protest Dominates Headlines

Today the media’s been buzzing with news of a bizarre protest outside the NFT.NYC conference yesterday. Reportedly, a group of citizens gathered in opposition to NFTs. What was even weirder was the justification behind the protest.

NFTs, Cryptocurrency, and Hip-hop

One of the most populated topics in headlines in months is that of NFTs and Cryptocurrency, and it’s not hard to understand why. Markets grow and evolve with time. We are one the precipice of change.

However, some may wonder what this has to do with hip-hop? Some of the most prominent members in hip hop have made waves and headlines for their investment and interaction in the burgeoning NFT and Crypto markets. Snoop Dogg, Timbaland, and Ashanti are a few with an active interest in those markets. FM Hip hop has kept abreast of this trend. Quite naturally, what impacts those markets impacts some high-profile community members and other community members with a vested interest.

What Went Down at the NFT Protest?

According to MSN, on Monday, June 20, groups of people were found marching in New York City with protest signs in hand. The signs not only read that God stood in opposition to NFTs but that one of the co-founders of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, was the Anti-Christ. So naturally, the oddity of the event raised a lot of eyebrows. But later, the entire situation got even weirder.

Unraveling the NFT Protest

It turns out the entire demonstration was a hoax. Essentially the event was organized to make a statement and garner a laugh. This is what reporter Asa Hiken had to say regarding the event,

“Let it be known: the protest is officially a stunt 🎊Spoke with @bobbyhundredshimself, who told me what he was going for and why he thinks the community needs a laugh right now.”

Now that is interesting.

NFT Protest Organizer

Who is Bobby (Kim)Hundreds? A source reports Hundreds is the organizer behind the stunt protest. Not only is Hundred’s a designer, but he is one of the founders of “The Hundreds.” And apparently, he has time on his hands to make a statement and incite a few laughs in the process. It is also being reported that there was a third motive for the fake protest, the promotion of Kim’s NFT collection.

In the Aftermath of a Fake Protest

Today NFT investors can rest easy there is nothing to threaten the market and NFC.NYT will resume business as usual. Undoubtedly this stunt did provide a chuckle or two post-discovery. However, there are people within the populace who have the exact mindset of those fake protestors. Unfortunately, the advent of a real protest in this manner might not turn out so great. And for some of us, this entire event has us scratching our heads. Some people do have too much time on their hands.

Drake’s newest video is sparking mad chatter for multiple reasons.

Drake’s Drop Leaves A Sour Taste For Some

Drake dropped the newest video for his track “Falling Back;” the content has left some people with a sour taste. In the video, Drizzy is preparing for his nuptials. However, it isn’t so much the marriage in the video that is the talk. Instead, it is the fact that he marries to several women.

In the video, Drake stands before the altar, where it appears he is saying a vow to one woman. However, the camera pans to a line of women in wedding gowns, exactly twenty-three brides. And for some, that set off alarms. One poster had this to say,

“love this double standard for men!! Cause chile if a bride had 23 grooms in line to be married, y’all would be dragging her for filth 🍵 .”

The polygamous subplot is not the only reason people are dragging the artist.

Second Point Of Contention

Some others are taking issues with who Drake cast as his best man in the video. Tristan Thompson gives Drake a pep talk before he is ready to stand before the priest and his brides. For some, the selection of Thomspon was a bad look. Some are still reeling from reports of Thompson’s infidelity to Khloe Kardashian. Choosing Thompson some felt put Drake in the same category. One commenter made this clear,

“Tristan Thompson being the best man in the falling back video while drake marries multiple women…..it makes sense.”

Apparently, he’s been held guilty by association.

Third Reason Drake Is Being Dragged

Then there is a group with something to say about Drake’s lyrics or, as some conveyed, lack thereof. One irritated fan complained about the repetitiveness of the phrasing. Admittedly a large chunk of the song represents one phrase on loop “Falling Back on Me.”

Of course, it’s not all hate. According to the number of Youtube likes, many people dig the track. But even those numbers are debatable because die-hard fans of Drake will like what he puts out regardless of its caliber. Honestly, this is certainly not the best Drake has put out, but it is what It is. And judgment is in the eye of the beholder. So check it out for yourself and tell us what you think?

Lil Wayne Denied Entry Into The U.K. to Perform at Strawberries & Creem Festival

The festival season will end with fans of Lil Wayne not getting to see him rock the stage in the U.K. after waiting fourteen years to see this happen. The Strawberries & Creem festival had the Young Money Rapper as their headliner this Saturday. But things didn’t work out eventually. The United Kingdom’s Home Office, according to Hotnewhiphop, denied Lil Wayne entry into Britain in a last-minute decision. 

According to a statement provided to Rolling Stone, Home Office travel policy requires them to refuse the visa application of any individual with a custodial sentence of 12 months or more. 

Strawberries & Creem Response

Strawberries & Creem also expressed disappointment in the sudden development and adverse ruling. Their statement reads,

“We have received very minimal notice, and the timing of the decision is, of course, upsetting for all involved—including Lil Wayne’s fans, as well as the festival team. Across the weekend, we still have an incredible array of artists joining us.”

Lil Wayne Denied Entry, Not The First Time

Lil Wayne seems to be experiencing travel issues recently. Sadly, this is the second festival couldn’t attend. Scheduled to hit the stage at the Governor’s Ball in New York City last weekend, the festival later announced his nonappearance because of a flight disruption. And A$AP Ferg, who was already replacing the Migos who dropped out, had to take his spot. Wayne has had no problems with the law this year. But the problem may be due to his felony gun charges from an incident in December 2020.  

Also, the five-time Grammy Award winner had pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon resulting from weapons charges in 2007. He was facing a potentially heavy jail time of up to 10 years. But former President Trump had extended a presidential pardon to the rapper on his last full day in office in January 2021.

Akademiks Facing Severe Backlash after Questionable Clip Resurfaces

DJ Akademiks is learning it’s essential to be careful with what you put out into the world after coming under fire for a statement he made years ago.

Akademiks Salacious Clip Surfaces

Sometimes things resurface, for DJ Akademik’s class is in session, and he’s getting this lesson the hard way. On June 15th, a video reappeared that had the masses looking at Akademiks sideways. He made some very questionable statements about underage girls in the audio clip. And some are looking for his head on a platter.

In the clip, the well-known personality condones having sex with underage females as long as they had college identification. In his words

“I don’t care if she just turned 17 and I turned 21, she’s gonna get this, “d***. That’s on a College Level”

And you can imagine the outrage.

Akademiks Attempts to Clear His Name

People sometimes say things they don’t intend. Sometimes people say things that lack intelligence in their youth. People shouldn’t say some things, and those who dare say them will have a hard time returning from it. Akademiks is doing his best to provide adequate justification. He didn’t waste time trying to clear his name; a primary premise he is making is the clip is taken out of context.

Let’s Proceed with the Arguments

He tried to argue people should look at his statement through the lens of a collegiate dynamic. Then he went on to argue he was referring to a specific case in which he mentions Tyga’s relationship with Kylie Jenner. At the time, he contends Tyga was 17 and Kylie 24.

“Tyga was 24, Kylie was 17, OK? So this is the context, and this is what is important”.

And he made it perfectly clear he was not speaking of him having sexual relations with anybody under 17 or 18.

Skeletons Align

The thing it’s difficult to judge the context based on that clip alone. Like it or not, it sounds bad. It doesn’t help he’s made some other questionable comments about underage girls. Comments he made about Bhad Bhabie were also brought forward.  Reportedly, he made comments about the artist’s breast when she was only 15 years old. After that tweet surfaced, The Source reported that Akademiks didn’t make a comment, but rather he was a victim of hacking.

Akademiks Experience is A Lesson to All

This entire experience teaches one valuable lesson. your deeds will speak for themselves and either convict you or free you. At this moment, people aren’t buying anything Akademiks is saying. He’s got too much on record that points to his irresponsible nature when it comes to speaking on or about young ladies and women. And more than a few people have made it clear he needs to be gone like yesterday. According to one poster,

“Akademiks need to be investigated. I’m not even joking.”

Can the artist talk himself out of this one? That is yet to be seen. This scenario should be a lesson to all to use discernment when sharing what’s on your mind. Some things you should keep to yourself because there will always be a reckoning.

Mellody Hobson to Become First Black Female to Acquire Stake In Denver Broncos

 Mellody Hobson is an exemplar of excellence in the community. Her business acumen is incomparable. And as a serial entrepreneur, her efforts are legendary. One only needs to peruse recent headlines of her newest historical move to see she is an unstoppable force of nature. According to headlines, Mellody is set to be one of the first Black Female co-owners of the Denver Broncos due to a joint acquisition.

Hobson Shines in Leadership

Mellody Hobson is a strategic leader. Her resume includes leadership positions with Starbucks and entertainment giant DreamWorks Animation Studios. Additionally, of mention, is her seat on the board of one of the most affluent financial institutions, JP Morgan and Chase. But that’s not all; currently, she holds an executive position with Ariel Investments, which is phenomenal. And now, she is taking her acumen into the realm of sports.

Hobson Breaking Barriers

Mellody is not the only one on the team of investors. According to Revolt,

“Also, in the group are [Rob] Walton’s daughter, Carrie Walton Penner, and his son-in-law Greg Penner, who will become minority owners as well.”

While she will not have full ownership, her partial stake in the team is a move of historic proportions. And it is her accomplishments that we wish to shine a light on. Respectfully, as a Black Female, her role in this acquisition is groundbreaking. She will join the likes of other few but powerful Black females with firsts in the realm of sports ownership. As highlighted by NBC, others include Serena Williams, Katrina Adams, Lisa Borders, Pamela El, Sheila Johnson, Adrienne Lofton, and Michele Roberts. 

The Path to Ownership

Reportedly the Broncos were actively looking for new ownership after Roger Goodall announced the team was up for sale. The speculation is that intense scrutiny of the lack of minority ownership turned sights toward a more diverse body of owners. However, Hobson and her partners were not the only ones with a bid. There were many potential buyers in line. And Afrotech ran stories on the several other investors with interest, and two of note were Jay-Z and Jeff Bezos. However, it appears that the team of Hobson, Walton, and a few more have snagged the acquisition with an offer of 4.65 billion pending approval by NFL owners.

The Light that Shines on Hobson

Given Hobson’s work and accomplishments, there is no doubt that she will bring her A-game. In a recent press release, her acquisition partner Rob Walton had this to say

 “We know she will bring her strategic acumen and leadership perspective to our team.”

That’s a considerable boost. Nevertheless, it’s one thing to know your capabilities. But, when others are equally accomplished and recognize your skill and strength, that’s legitimately awesome.

Hobson Accomplishments Markers of Progress

Progress is measured by moving forward. And every time ceilings are shattered and leadership barriers splintered, it reflects what is possible. Flawlessly, Hobson proves time and time again that anything is possible. So, we salute her. And it is our hope she continues to be the walking demonstration of Black Female Excellence she is.

Jamie Foxx Tells Salacious Tale of a Prominent Actress Doing Cocaine

Everyone who knows Jamie Foxx knows he’s a man of many talents. One of those talents is in telling a good story. On a recent episode of R&B Money, Foxx had a very salacious story to convey.

Jamie’s Salacious But Humorous Tale

According to Foxx, he was once in a hotel room partying with a very high-profile actress. Although nothing is particularly interesting about partying or rubbing elbows with prominent stars, Foxx says it was an encounter he didn’t forget. It was so unforgettable that he couldn’t stop laughing.

Foxx conveyed that this high-profile actress, whom was in the hotel room with him at the time, had no clue who he was the entire night. In fact, she mistook him for Rick Fox, and at that point he lost it.  In Jamie’s words.

“She thought I was Rick Fox I was like, ‘I’m not light skin with good hair like this n***a.'”

So obviously something was off, and it was.

Jamie Spills a Little More Tea

Jamie attributes the case of mistaken identity to one thing in particular, cocaine. Foxx says this well-known actress was indeed doing cocaine, and it had her all messed up. He relayed

“She does the cocaine, she says, ‘I’m a bad mother,’ and then she goes, ‘Wow, I didn’t think I would be in this room doing cocaine with Rick Fox.”

By now, inquiring minds want to know who this could be.

Keeping it Hush

Well, Foxx is keeping that part well under wraps. One thing he doesn’t do is give names. We can assume it’s someone with a pretty significant presence in the industry from his account. And Foxx assured his listeners you could take his word to the bank. In his words,

“I wasn’t, I wasn’t, I was not doing it. I don’t do that because of my religious beliefs.”

If you’re wondering, he’s talking about cocaine. So in other words, his head was clear, and he was fully aware of what was going on in that hotel room.

The Takeaway

We don’t know a lot about those who have climbed the ladder of success. And given the number of skeletons that have fallen out of some people’s closets, some things it’s best we don’t know. Of course, if Jamie says it happened, we take his word for it. But for now, we’re enjoying the highlights of Foxx’s many adventures. More importantly, we’re sending out thanks for the development of another outlet to highlight our culture.
